I had huge hopes for AOC. Thats all i can say.....Yesterday my entire guild decided that AOC was too much of a fuck-up to play anymore. It actually ruined my whole day at work. So much time invested.. so many dashed hopes.
The truth is.. Funcom is a piece of shit company that never can produce in time to keep subs. AO was a disaster, and it seems they haven't learned anything in the past 4 years or so.
Feel free to flame, but after getting 2 characters to 80.. having nothing to do essentially but PVE raid on a PVP server in a game that was originally supposed to be PVP focused, myself and our 20ish guild members have decided that FUNCOM has miserably failed to provide any sort of worthwhile PVP experience.
On top of this.. the patches every 4 days where they essentially retool entire classes make the game unbearable to play. Everything that had been patched until now was never properly tested.. and should have been in beta. People will say. blah blah GG you.. goodbye, we dont need you.. or just wait, it will be good in a few months. My response to this is, NO. Just plain NO. PvP systems are being revamped as we speak to make them Karma based and more carebear gear grindish than ever. AOC failed the second it decided that PVE was important enough to start changing classes based on PVE balance. It takes 3 days played to get a char to 80.. in other words.. no one gives a fuck about lvling balance. Killing mass mobs is easy so stop balancing classes b/c of their ability to kill mobs. Balance should have been PvP oreiented which is obviously not the case since almost all balances being made were to chars that they deemed OP in pve. Single target DPS, especially by classes that sucked in PVE were left in tact, bugged as hell. In a PVP game, PVP guilds decide on spec groups in order to roll around together. You cant make spec groups when every four days you have to shit yourself wondering what AOC is going to patch to radically change everything that you do.
GG Funcom. You actually made the game fail with your shitty patches. I can honestly say that if you had left the game as it was when it released... and focused only on adding end game PVP content ( as of now, they've fixed dungeons.. but what have they done with seiges. NOTHING. they added like what 1 NPC. This is after they acknowledged how important PVP is to them in that bullshit letter)
What have i learned?
Never ever ever play a FUNCOM game again. Id rather play crap ass Korean grind games with 0 content that at least focus around PVP.
Back to Shadowbane.. and back to waiting for Warhammer.

Mostly I agree. Im sick of companies claiming their game is going to be PvP based, then they give you little to no PvP. If I wanted to kill mobs all day id simply play one of the many mmo's currently available.
Bah.
You chose to purchase the Not-Ready-For-Prime-Time Age of Conan. GG, you and 500,000 others paid $50 for the game and $15 a month to help FunCom continue to beta test their game, and now you're serving us your whine with your cheese about being frustrated with purchasing a beta product? Hello? Do your homework next time. It was obvious, even to most zit squezzing plebians desperate for boobs and blood that Age of Conan wasn't ready; FunCom sold the sizzle to folks from fax sites and due to financial difficulties *HAD* to release AoC with all sizzle, much fanfare and very little steak.
Age of Conan's a great game - good potential, but it's still beta. So me? Yep, I'm playing AoC --> *CLOSED BETA* <-- helping FunCom to polish this rough, uncut diamond.
You can expect a release-quality, balanced game in three to six months.
Y'all come back now, hear? ;)
I dont know where you guys keep getting this "it was supposed to be pvp only" stuff from. But it was supposed to be pve with the keep pvp. It was only after pvpers complained that they pandered.. but I do agree the game sucks, the company sucks. The only thing it really has going for it is the beautiful graphics, blood and gore... and boobs.
Hey Liz, I looked at your other posts, and this isnt even the first time youve insulted someone for buying AoC and being disappointed with it. Whats your deal exactly?
The game needs more beta testing time that is for sure. But the players that paid for a final release game shouldn't have to pay for it, very disappointing.
Well I paid for retail knowing what the game was and will cancel my sub soon knowing what the game is. I got some entertainment out of it though. Still out on whether I got my monies worth or not yet. The only reason i bought the game in the first place is there is nothing else out there that even comes close to what I want to play. Now I am down to waiting for warhammer and hoping they dont screw that one up too. I was really really hoping this game would last me until warhammer came out but its not looking like it now.
Just stay away from Funcom products.
They manage to ruin all of their games thinking they know what ppl want and not listening to the players playing the games.
Would also like to give a shout to a company that took the decicion to delay a game because it was'nt all that it could be before release.
Mythic working on Warhammer.
ill stay
i know the game has issues but i dont feel ripped off.
i know it was released to early but im happy to play it now as it is rather then wait another 5month
for the 50$ i spend i got more then enough entertainment/hour from the game
the one thing i wonder is how someone can level up 2 chars to level 80 without enjoying the time he spends in the game.
for me in conan pvp/engame is a bonus for players that have to much time not the essence that drives the game.
warhammer on the other hand better delive kick ass pvp from the go...
i believe that in the future games should better conzentrate on rather telling a story (quest driven mmos like conan, ddo) or providing rich pvp entertainment (guildwars, lineage2, warhammer).
trying to get both audiences will probably lead to shallow quests for the content/prg seekers and not so good pvp for the pvp enthusiasts.
as for conan in its current state its 80% content, 20% pvp while a game like lineage2 is like 20% content and 80% pvp
It is sad for a game that had so much potential but was released too early so it didn't have to face off versus WotLK and WAR.
YAY!!!! down with aoc and down with funcom YAY!!!!! funcom is full of liers u have spoken.
Well.. to point ou one thing. lvling two toons to 80 isnt entirely wierd. One char was made with only speed in mind. We take off a few days form work and hardcore it up as fast as we can to beat the rush. This is NOT a fun char. It is a neccesary creation. Classes are chosen from a small list of what is good when a fresh MMo comes out. These chars are purely for PL/Grind/Farm/Protection. Our second char is the one we pick to have fun with. That also comes from a list.. but teh list is designed on a Spec Group that is decided on by concensus. These 2nd toons are PL'd ASAP as they become our PVP toons. After our first 80.. we always feel burned out but get refreshed playing the spec group toons. Unfortunately it was after our spec toons reached 80 that we finally decided that the game is just not worth playing as a PVP game. Hence RIP AoC.
We never delete accts. we are a very small guild and do not recruit very much. Seeing how AOC is very much catering to the zerg guilds, we found that a small guild of focused hardcore PvP'rs couldnt even hope to participate in AoC's real end game PVP. Our city will remain standing at T2 but with only 20ish active members we werent really thinking wed have T3 and a Keep ever.. and that "ever" is kind of depressing. There needed to be subbing.. there needed to be tons of mechanisms so that you dont have to join a mindless zerg of shit in order to make a difference. As it stood.. other than killing spawns.. no player in AOC as next to any effect on the actual breathing world. Its just pretty and neat .. but when you kill someone.. nothing happens and they spawn 10 seconds away.
./boring
Sweet, 21 less 15 year olds to bitch and complain about the game.
Thats always good!
Thanks for telling us.. we all cared so much..
i make it a point not to delete comments on a blog.. b/c i feel that defeats the purpose and integrity of what we are doing here. However sometimes i do find myself and my beliefs tested.
/justification
Ive been playing MMO's for almost 10 years now since UO. We dont bitch, we evaluate and come to, more often than not, very valid conclusions about a game. Also.. whilest the game is slotted as ACTIVE in our forums.. you almost never hear anyone bitching about anything. We play to the max and when we have had anough.. /goodbye
The Same old thing. A PvP player who thinks thats what the game is made for.
I just dont see the need for people to bash everything.
You don't like the Game? Good. Move on. We dont need to here you cry on why you quit. Just Quit and Move on.

Giddian...you do realize that the vast majority of the games hype was CENTERED on its PvP, right? The very first videos ever released were about PvP...everything told about it was started based on its siege system.
I don't think its surprising at ALL that people thought this was a PvP game. The only reason I didn't was because I got to reading the dev blogs and realized they talked a bit too highly of their raid gear system concept.
Honestly, Giddian, you should probably just not speak when you don't know what you're talking about.
Do you think you're shedding light on anything? Everyone knows the game isn't complete. But those who are still subbing don't really care, we're supporting the company until the game is ready for the masses.. It's $15... that's about an hour of work... Oh lord, I have to put an hour of pay towards a game I spend 2~ hours on a day.
On top of that, no game is released with all the endgame. I don't think WoW had all of its endgame ready. So why rush to the end of the game twice? You honestly should have taken your time and read some of the quests or something. Why is it all about powerleveling? To me, powerleveling is pointless as long as there's a lvl cap..
And they don't cater to zerg guilds.. I hope if you've got a decent guild you can get 100 people.. And if you're so organized and super skilled, you don't need that extra "powerpoint" a month. You'll get it by leveling up once you're 80. Plus there's a cap on the siege battles, so only 48 of the guild members can even get in, so if you have 20 skilled players and 20 normal players against their 48 normal players, you'll probably win.
And you don't want to make a Battle Keep. Trust me. It'll be more fun to wait for all the Tier 2 guilds (top 9 are Tier 1, the best of the best. Only top 9 because that's how many keeps there are, I believe). Let them get it and waste money on walls and gates, then siege them as soon as their vulnerability runs out. It'd be more fun destroying other guilds cities and dropping the keep from your guild to let another Tier 2 take it and build than it would be to waste cash on a keep and wait to defend it twice a week. I bet you could fight 3-4 sieges a week if you don't try to hold a keep.
and Guild wars was centered around PvP but that isnt the whole game. I followed this game from day 1. Yes there was a Hype on PvP. Put there was allso a Big Hype on Story, adventuring, and a new Combat System.
My point was {that you seemed to miss} There is more to the game OTHER than PvP.
I guess people only look at what they want
Sounds like you thought you were playing Shadowbane 2. I suggest you wait for Stray Bullet games to release that, rahter than to try to shoehorn every game that comes out into Shadowbane's systems.
hey wait a sec. open world pvp. PVP enabled resource zones. Keep seige/control. Sounds a lot like a beefed up version. Too bad it wasn't.
On a sidenote.. SBG wont ever devlop SB. They have already announced a sure-failure fantasy MMO of theirs that is 95% vaporware. If only someone were smart enough to go for SB2 and this time buy some decent servers.
I feel for you. I reall do. I played for the end game as well, and really looking forward to the sieges and PvP aspect of the game. It just isn't there. Funcom is blowing it.
::sigh::
why are people so annoyed at reading other peoples posts about them not liking a game and quitting? Your essentially complaining about a complaint.
THIS IS A FORUM, complaints are meant to be discussed here, not just disregarded and saying:
"Thanks for telling us.. we all cared so much.." no ones laughing
"You don't like the Game? Good. Move on. We dont need to here you cry on why you quit. Just Quit and Move on." people want to know, its called opinions, many people look for opinions before buying things.
"Sweet, 21 less 15 year olds to bitch and complain about the game." 21 more people bitching and complaining you mean. you make no sense.
Dumb replies like those are so pathetic. If they say something you dont agree with, point it out and discuss. Sadly all forums are full of useless comments. Trolls.
If you like AoC, tell us what you like about it and why your still playing. I quit AoC myself so i tend to agree with the blog.
"You don't like the Game? Good. Move on. We dont need to here you cry on why you quit. Just Quit and Move on." people want to know, its called opinions, many people look for opinions before buying things
The only people that do this are disgruntal people venting, thats no way to form an opinion. Give a Review, Thats alot more informative.
People who write "I'm Pissed this is why,, I'm taking my ball and going home."
Be Honest. The game sucks so bad, he hade to make 2 toons to 80. If you made 2 toons to 80, you must not have felt it sucked too bad.
Giddian...Point is, if you are in a powerplayer guild, maxing toons in any mmo is a breeze..really. It take like 5% the time a regular player use to max a toon to endgame, even in WoW where leveling is a breeze from the getgo. Been there, done that...so there...They max the toons to experience endgame, giving a squat in the content they mostly fly by. Some players like it that way.
What I dont agree on when those players do that, like he did in this blog, is that they miss most of the content, so they only got experience at endgame. So their opinions are somewhat void, but bleh...each to their own.
Like that dude that got the first 70 at Outland. He used some 15-20 hours together with his guild, ignoring all the content between 60 to 70. So if he say Burning Crusade sucks, his opinion matters very little since he dont know most of it.
With that said, Funcom have a habit of broken promises and outright lies, ignoring the players completely. Gaute Godager is especially good at that. He fucked AO up and now he is screwing with AoC. Sadly, as a FC-founder he is stuck in a leader position making one bad decision after another and almost impossible to get rid off. I wouldn't even hire that guy to run a fastfood shop oO
Well, I'm one of that players, that cancelled subscription same day game was installed. But after purchasing right graphics card (and was worth every single €) game runs very smoothly, I have not experienced any bug being really bad. Lag in Old Tarantia is pretty annoying from time to time ... but still in acceptable limits (especially for new game).
Anyway, despite all problems, game being in kind of beta, gathering/crafting bad by design, .... I enjoy it and have renewed subscription.
But it is also true, that I'm one of those players that do ***not care at all*** for PvP or raids or - for that matter - end game content. To me, all fun is to level different classes, crafting, exploring, ... through time. Having now one lv. 40, one 34 and all other possible alts between 20 and 26, I must say despite all problems I like AoC more and more and for now for me is the only alternative to WoW (while waiting for Lich King).
Interest in playing ANY game fades sooner or later .... So, when I will have enough of AoC I will search for substitute.
