I am not alone in this: If you have been reading the technical forums you will have seen numerous "freezing", "crashing" and "FPS" threads that are only a small subset of the problems people have been having since 9/06.

Before last patch, I could play this game at 30-40 in the wild and 10-20 in the laggiest areas (i.e. Old Tarantia), but now I have to set viewing distance to the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM to even get it to 20-30 fps; the game is barely playable as I can only see 50 feet in front of my character. 

The problem I have is the following: I can't set the low quality rendering distance below maximum. If I do, then I get a white screen with ripples and am unable to see any character models, terrain etc. 

So I either have to play with maximum low quality view distance, or AA, which eats too much of my fps to have an adequate view distance (50 yards maximum). Before the patch I had a similar problem, but fixed it myself by changing my videocard settings (they are still the same.. I checked).

While you could argue it is because of my 256 MB card, OTHER people with >= 512 cards are having similar performance problems (especially with rendering) and the game worked fine before the latest patch hit, so you hardware-elitest-assholes' points are moot.

Sorry, just a warning for people that want to buy the game right away: Hold off until they fix the latest issues (hopefully around thursday).

Before the patch I had average 25-30, now I have 30-35 FPS. Not much but still better. However the game does look different. Not necessarily bad, but different.

Funcom changed something in the graphics engine that benefits some players while screwing others.

I would have like to get some information about these changes in the patch release notes. Unfortunately Funcom only documents about 50%% of the changes in the release notes.

Ah, then you got off lucky and you're 100% accurate about the 50%: They didn't mention Overreach's nerf, Fire Lance's nerf and a casting timer increase on HFB from 2 to 5, but meh...

Anytime I log into the game, I get a black screen at character selection.  If I continue on into the game, I can't see anything.  However, if I click on Video Options and click on Apply (whether or not I changed anything), everything comes back.

Weird.  Anyway, as I stated in another thread, I'm trying Vanguard now.  We'll see if I can sate my mmorpg-lust somewhere.

Puma713 the exact same thing happens to me. It was not like that at first, but one time after it crashed i log in to see all but the hud black. I have to open video options and hit "apply" .. strange.

2 gigs ram

7900gs 256mb

But yeah some people had some issues, they are still polishing the engine, it happens on early released games.

Allot of players with really high end PC are having some issues with teh FPS.

My FPS changes from 30-35 to 25-30 and I don´t  wan't to lower my NPCs view distance, hope they can fix this problem soon.

Game works perfectly fine for me and all my friends but we arent trying to play the game on a $400 computer from Wal-Mart either.
