Other than guerrilla warfare, what is a common thread throughout real warfare? Uhmm is it that both sides have large groups of people?(a zerg?)

When you take away a zerg what do you have? Small scale fighting? Group vs. Group? I guess if you want that you can play Guildwars or WoW in their arenas.

you lost all credibility when you said AOC isn't that bad.  AOC is just WoW with password protected special abilities btw.  There is very little groundbreaking about it.  Certainly less than WAR with the PQs, war banners, non instanced keep raids, city sieges, trophies etc.

you haven't played AoC... and you have no idea what you're talking about.
Noone said AoC was completely groundbreaking... but even an idiot would know and see that the combat is actually much more interactive than other MMOs... and that can only be a good thing....

I know this is the WAR forum but it doesn't hurt to be open-minded about other games as well

Man, everybody and his aunt was saying that AoC was groundbreaking.

I m starting to get the impression you didn t come to the WAR forums to even discuss WAR at all just a round about way to bash it and put a plug in for AOC. I answered your questions, yet you comment on an AOC comment. Leave that for the other forum unless you want to start a why is AOC so bad chat mid post.

This is what pisses me off... just because elves and goblins is the most common theme for a fantasy based world, it doesn't mean they are the only.. in fact, some of the best aren't elves and golbins worlds....

Conan?.... Cthulhu?....what else? :)

Yes I have played it and no it isn't groundbreaking.  Look in WAR you have an auto attack timer and you spam a special ability every 1.5 seconds or so.  In AOC you have no auto attack and you spam a button every 1 second only for every special ability you want to use at high level you have to press 5 different buttons to make it fire off.  The shielding system plays a pretty small role in combat because they shift around too much, it might make you switch the order of combos you use but that is about it.  Active dodging/blocking is semi neat but not groundbreaking.

AOC combat seems a lot more in depth until you play a melee to level 80 and then you see it is just smoke and mirrors.  I pick a special, I press 5 keys in order (something a 4 year old could do so it isn't hard) and then the combo goes off.  There is no more thought or depth to the system than any other.

Actually some of the responses here have persuaded me to actually try the game.. when I was having second thoughts...
Comparisons with other games are inevitable

Well there' s more though to choosing which attack to hit with and where to hit and which combo to use depending on how long it will take to resolve etc etc than just hitting a damn ability like most other MMOs....

Funcom have made a lovely combat mechanic but sadly it isn't implemented to it's full extent...
It's got a lot of potential... maybe in some future game someone will re-use it properly.

Now that I can agree with. The idea behind the combat system is ok and I applaud them for trying something different.  The implementation for me at least actually made melee combat more boring than in WoW/WAR type games which is unfortunate.

You really feel the war, compared to WoW where you really do not know why you fight opposing faction (just because you can? ), what is purpose of BG ( just to get next item?), what is purpose of Arena (just to get your team up in the rank and again get better items?)...

In contrast to WoW, WAR have complete MMO conception...

yup I agree... the feeling that you belong to a faction is there.. but still.... guild relations can offer that to you in any game... the rest of the game still has to offer you something more.....

See here's where you slightly miss the point to RvR...games that are all about ME or all about "guild" are only about 'the guild' or only about 'me'  meaning anyone else is left out...cut off...sectioned out.   RvR games are about your whole entire Realm..even GUILDS work with in the realm and for the realm but in non RvR games like WoW they only work for themselves.  They could careless if they see some brothern horde members getting slaughtered its not their business, because it affects nothing.   In RvR its important to fight off the otherside (unless said player is a dick then he deserves to be ignored) because it affects the game world.  It affects Realm Control and it affects who gets to Siege on who's capit
