Is Xfire really a good thing to go by? I mean Star Wars Galaxies on that thing outranks Everquest 2!!!. I've had my issues with SOE and Everquest over the years but no way in hell is SWG more popular in general. By Xfire users maybe. You can't just by that that alone.

Paid MMORPG subscriptions are the ONLY valid rating meters because people have to pay to vote."

Read the reviews on EQ2.  By no means were most players happy with it out of the gate.  SWG was a solid game destroyed by an expansion/patch.

Waiting for the next thing

Referring to the current rankings on Xfire. Not about when they came out.

Xfire tends to attract people who are into PvP gameplay.  Be it first person shooters, MMOs or whatever.  EQ2 PvP is pretty much a joke and thus doesn't attract people who typically run xfire.

Xfire isn't usually a good source of overall information as it is hard to read what the data means, but in the case of Conan and the short period of time it is a pretty strong indicator of a sharp decline.  At least for the heavy PvP crowd.

heh he as a SWG beta tester, I still have the CD's which I had to PAY 10 or 15 bucks to SOE  so I could test their frigging game, I disagree. Actually SWG release and AoC release was just about even now that you have me thinking about it.

Performance in AoC was actually a bit better for me because I remember SWG bringing my then hotrod system to a stuttering slideshow whenever the leaves would fall from the tree  on Naboo. SWG was even worse as far as the database issues went.  3 months after release I quit because my merchant went poof with a couple of million credits worth of armor and CS told me to shove it. CS sucked swapwater in general, Gms were pretty much useless and there were long waits for assistance. I remember one night I got stuck in a hole and after a hour of wait time I had  a guild mate kill me.The unstick command did not work and I was sick of waiting on the GM.

Database problems were rampant just go back insome of the old SWG forum posts if you can find some. SWG was a great sandbox, unfortunatly it's release was as flawed or even more flawed than AoC's. There were a half a dozen "promised" features that were not in at launch either. The Jedi system, mounts, the Bio Engeneer profession was totaly broke even three months after release. Credit duping and other exploits were common.

No,  SWG and AoC releases were about the same. However where SoE could get away with a crap release then, nowadays gamers want a smooth release. LoTRO, WoW , CoX etc have spoiled them.

Back to topic I was playing LoTRO last night and I agree that Xfire does not give good indications of raw numbers. LoTRO is just ahead of AoC in the rankings but i saw half a dozen active fellowships ( groups) playing in a mid 30's area. LoTRO is not all that for PvP and has it's own voice chat system so I really do not think many PvE players use Xfire in ratio to the population.

However XFire numbers from launch to present would be interesting to see and would definitly show the trends in the games population. Fortunaly in this case they were readily available. I just wish I had kept a Excel spreadsheet of them. I do recall initial launch was up in the 90K range and after a week it leveled off to the mid 60's. Kind of sad that now even on a weekend it has dropped below 10K.

So, what are you trying to say here exactly? AoC should be higher on that list?

Thanks to PvP that is just as good as LOTROs though is one reason it is so low on the list now.

This is too sad too. With WAR upon us, AoC will fall even further (should be interesting to see hours played for this Sunday), and I will even speculate that those who would like some PvP in their PvE will leave LOTRO also.

Guess all we can do is wait and see how things progress over the next couple of weeks.

Having played LotRO since closed beta, worked on the LotROVault, played on the preview server and been active with the community (at least on Silverlode) I'd guess that not many long time LotRO players will be leaving for WAR.

Though I'm sure a few of the new guilds that popped up after AoC crashed will head out, though thats to be expected. I think a lot of those guys sought refuge in LotRO instead of heading to WoW with the mindset they would leave when WAR hit.
