Cry Havok; and let loose the dogs of war.

Acta Non Verba

I was having this dicussion with friends and i figured id put it up here, since this is a larger audience.

Which would you rather your children experience in a game, characters on screen violently killing each other, or Nudity and obscure/overt sexual acts.

The conversation with my friends was ass-backwards in my opinion with more people being offended by sex then the violence, and i am guessing the result will be the same here, so a discussion on why sex is worst then death is one that would be interesting to have.

PRE-CU STILL LIVES!

I know it sounds odd....but I'd rather have violence than sex in a game.

My son will have plenty of time to discover the wonders of sex when he's old enough to enjoy such things.

However, the sooner one learns how to cope with violence, the better.

Not that I am "offended" by either....I just have a preference as to what I would rather enjoy in my games, and the order in which I'd rather have my son learn about things.

Be nice to people on your way up because you meet them on your way down.

I voted violence/death/killing. Simply cause kids see this kinda behavior regularily on tv n such. I teach my kids violence is tolerated only in video games. My son loves the GTA series , but knows behavior such as that in the real world is unacceptable.

However sex is not offencive. But it is something they can easily participate in before they are ready. There is already too many teenage preg kids kickin around these days. Too many single mothers, n kids with no homes. Why the hell would you want to encourage your kid to participate in sex too young?

what an akward thing to ask, of course none of them..........it's like asking a fish if he prefers to be cooked on a frying pan or in the oven.

If you can, obviously avoid both.
Problem is that nowadays kids are non supervised when they use a computer, therefore they are exposed to porn and violence from a young age.
But in theory parents should not allow their kids to see violence or sex/nudity til they are a lil more mature.

Violence, hell I grew up on Tom and Jerry beating the hell out of each other and GI Joe blowing the shit out of everything.  Violence is part of being human.  Sexual crap will fine when they are old enough to know.

Now if you are talking about over the top gore then neither.

I grow up beating people up and being beaten up..........but that doesn't make it right.
Of course we need to protect our kids both from over exposure to violence and sex (and when I say kids I don't mean the 15 y/o but the 10-12 y/o)

I wouldn't say "protect"...more like regulate the amount of exposure so that they are eased into it gradually as they mature.

Regulate is a way to protect.
Protect doesn't mean banning them to use the computer alltogether.
I mean if you leave a 10 y/o with a computer in his own room without putting any filters, how long do you think it will be before they find a porn site?
I give them 5 minutes max............

How about "It's a stupid question?"

I don't want either for my kid.

This is why I, as a responsible and non-braindamaged parent, I pay attention to what games are bought.

I pay attention to the rating on the game.

I do my job as a parent instead of hoping someone else will.

That's MY opinion.
