Ok dude, you are going to need to get more specific. What is it you want out of an MMO? Everyone is just stabbing in the dark on your thread. You haven't said once what you are looking for. Both games have their pros and cons. They are both fantasy games. Now you are throwing Vanguard into the mix. What exactly are you looking for in an MMORPG because at their core, none of these games are a lot different from one another.

I'd probably say Lotro, since it's newer. But having played the game for a year (account currently de-activated), I keep finding myself disappointed at the direction they are taking the game. The developers CONSTANTLY dumb stuff down. They have no *real* communication with the forum. They are catering hardcore to the "solo" community. They keep adding more and more time-wasting BS. I also think MoM looks hideous. Where's the real-time lighting in the mines? The darkness? Torches? All the screenshots I've seen look blocky and boring. I think they should have simply waited a year or two longer before they started on this game. WoW doesn't have the best graphics but WoW has style and colorful pizazz, where Lotro tries to be realistic but just doesn't quite do it outside of a few rare DX10 effects. |

No, you asked us (the readers) which of these two games you should play. Your quote "I am trying to decide which game to get into, lotro or eq2 since they both have new expansions coming out this month. " Now I am sure that many would like to help you out, its difficult to do when you keep switching gears, don't say what you are looking for in a game, and throw other titles into the mix. I'll take your advice though and ignore your topic because its nothing more then a ping pong match in the dark.

The zone issue in EQ2 is mostly over stated. Do not make it an issue on deciding which game to play. In the two starting cities Freeport and Qeynos there is a lot of zones. Each district is a new zone. Also the areas that were in game at release are zones. However each zone is huge. You do not feel you are in a small area as in the two original starting cities. LOTRO has less zoning but the over all land mass to explore is a fraction of the amount of land mass in EQ2. EQ2 is huge probably one of the biggest mmos in terms of landmass out. SOE has reduced the zoning a lot in each expansion. You will hear people say that the zoning in EQ2 is an issue, it is not for me. When you do zone it is fast about 2 to 5 seconds for me. So yes there are more zones in EQ2 then LOTRO but EQ2 is massive in comparison to LOTRO. |
