I expect that as we get closer to the release of TOR the TCG loot cards will become more and more relevant to combat in SWG.

As players begin to leave in preparation for TOR SoE will undoubtedly try to squeeze more cash from those unfortunate people, then *poof* it'll all be worthless and non-existant.

Of this I have little doubt.  Smedley is all about picking your pocket.  He's a Ferengi troll.

Of course.  The Untradeable Card Game is a Smed "macrotranscam" in the making.  Sure you get "free" cards, and have a chance to get a relevant in game "loot" card.  But the Devs as always control drop rates, etc, and can always tinker with them to make it nearly impossible to get the good ones for "free" whilst paying through the nose (one macrotranscamaction at a time) gets these much more often.

Thinking that this could (and is already) happening is very easy because SOE and their Devs have been proven far more often to be untrustworthy than truthful.

How much you want to bet that they will add something to the "Untradeable Card Game" that will end up as some MUST HAVE weapon, buff, or misc item, AND that no one will ever see it drop for "free"?

Yes, I am calling SOE's credibility into question.  Only a fool wouldn't question it given their past.

After the events of three years ago, how could it be otherwise?

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

a lot of posts are appearing over there now asking whats the point in playing.

Theyre starting to wake up and realize SWG is finished so its pointless to (as one person posted) "build another museum" or "finish a collection"

for the first time, Im seeing NGE players losing hope.

They made the mistake of allowing a lot of us to post again with the free trial...

I do find it interesting that he would actually mention it, not like of him to do so.

And that is why...

Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

I voted never, since they have been in denial since the NGE, and will never admit that it's an uter failure. Even when all they have left are the die hards it will still run.. It's like a bad Baghdad Bob twilight zone.

I think the comment was aimed more at LEC than the players.  There is something of a "cold war" going on right now that could get hot at any moment.  Lawsuits exchanging hands wouldn't suprise me, and in fact, in my opinion, likely.  Look at it from SOE's point of view, the announcement on 10/21 literally ripped the rug out from under SOE and the NGE.

Truth is closure at the release of SWTOR actually represents the BEST CASE scenario for the NGE'ers right now, not the worst.  It could actually close much sooner.  Closure window for this game is anytime between 30 days to the day of SWTOR.  And as I've said, once the NGE closes, it closes.  It will never be revived the way the previous version of the game will be.  Due to lack of demand, which is pretty much the same reason why it's going to close to begin with.

Ok, a few personal opinions on this: Like most of the pre-cu and pre-NGE players, I was devestated by the changes done to the game. That said, I have returned every now and again to the game, to see what has been going on. The NGE as it is (if you look away from the previous incarnations of the game) is still an ok game, with more to offer than a lot of other mmo's out there. Now on to the cons:

Quest driven gameplay. You are being led through the game from the start, like a little kid chasing an ice-cream truck up til cl 90, only to find that the damn vendor doesn't even have any good ice-cream to sell you when you catch up. Cl 90 = Nothing to do but burn off credits. Sure, you can always go off and do the achievements and collections, but to be honest, that is more of a time killer than anything else.

Limitations. You can only do so much with a few "Iconic" classes and career changes become costly and are not too interesting when you blow through them all in no time. Player cities and housing was a great feature, but since the start, there has been a limitation on how many player cities can occupy any planet. Understanding that, I can't help but wonder... Why not ad more planets or even expand the existing ones a bit more?

Smedley mentions the game being a sandbox... It makes me wonder if he has actually read or seen the game in it's current incarnation... The only real "Sandbox" element that exists is the option to build cities or set up houses in the middle of nowhere (if you are lucky enough to find a spot amidst the dead and forsaken cities that the purge didn't destroy.)

All of this makes me wonder, why SOE AND LA (Especially after Smed's announcement that the NGE was a mistake) Can't turn things around a little and make the player base happy again. Time and again, they have said there will be no roll-back (yes, we have grieved over this a long time), but they could re-implement the old system, perhaps better than it was, balanced and with new content and not have to call it a roll-back. Sure, LA wants to make money on the new TOR, and that could be a reason for cutting down on funding SWG, but it kind of feels like they would be cutting off some nice cash flow by doing so.

The designers made the ultimate mistake: They released a game that people enjoyed. A sandbox in every way and a brave step in the mmo world. Then they change the game completely, despite the player base complaints about it. IF SOE and LA want this game to live and continue, they need to re-visit the sandbox game and re-implement the features that the player base Enjoyed. The game in it's former incarnation had more to offer than it's current one, and by tweaking it and doing whatever balance fixes etc. are needed, it can be again. Why try to be like everyone else, instead of being something independent and good? Why not have a game that Star Wars enthusiasts and a slightly more mature player base can enjoy?

Guess that's my two cents.
