I'm a Gamer turned Indie Developer because I wanted something different. I came to the MMORPG.com Forums looking for insight on what other MMORPG Gamers want. What a HUGE mistake! All I see is piles upon piles of complaints and put downs to MMO Devs on the lack innovation with several references to `playing-like` EQ or UO. Honestly, do you expect to see new innovations with such Bullsh!t?

How about trying another approach. Instead of venting, try Inventing. Try offering some new ideas wether big or small. No matter how short or far fetched. Nothing is out of reach and everything is within reach. Then maybe some Devs out here will listen in.

When people say they want UO and EQ days back they don't mean they want exact copies of those games now. They just want that feeling - the feeling that you are participating in the shaping of a virtual world, and not playing a online arcade game with added grind.

Well it's all for me grog, me jolly jolly grog,
all for me beer and tobacco!

May contain nuts.

As the old saying goes: 'You can't please all the people all of the time'. Which pretty much sums up this community. Everyone has different tastes and opinions, and trying to cater to everyone can only end in distaster.

What you have to remember is that the people on these boards represent around ~10% of the MMO community as a whole and come here to actively get embroiled in the drama. Everything posted here needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Exactly as the post said above.

Further more, it's not OUR jobs to come up with fresh ideas, I'm not going to get paid nor will I make money with any ideas, where as a dev can.

Sorry as a businessman I only see stupidity to reveal anything that could make another money and me nothing.

That is the exact reason I could give a rats ass about devs coming to these boards, these boards were not designed as the vocal shout out to devs.

Simply put, they were designed for players to gripe, rant, whine, and generally make witty retorts using color coded quotes. This site isn't built for much other, hell look at the dev side of the board, it's goddamned crickets in there.

Go get a focus group or hire some project management guys. Don't use a BBS for freaking ideas thats how we got NGE'd (for the starwars guys), that's how we got Dnl'ed (for those of use who can remember that abortion), and finally that's where we got.....actually no finally. I'm done.

Completely agree with this. I sincerely hope one of the games in the current development list will bring that back..

It's just nostalgia, Penn and teller made a good show about this recently :)

It is always easy to remember things from your younger days as better than they really was, everyone does this to a certain degree. Some like the music from they were younger, ohers the games, totaly normal.

I would however see MMOs evolve the same way pen and paper RPGs did in the 80s and 90s, we are stll stuck in th 70s D&D with the MMOs with very few exceptions. Levels is one of the things, character development is another that needs a lot of work in the upcoming MMOs. The devs are always taking the old easy way out.

Why can't high level chars give quest to low levels (and they should off course be able to turn in the quest and get the reward when the player is offline)?

What happened with the classical traps in dungeons? In a PnP rgp you always have a thief with you to clear traps and pick locks.

These arent new ideas, Neverwinter nights used some of them but they would really make a MMO more fun.
