Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime has said the people who left World of Warcraft for pastures Warhammer Online and Age of Conan are returning home.

"To date, 68 per cent of the players who listed Age of Conan as their reason for cancellation and 46 per cent of the players who listed Warhammer [Online] as their reason for cancellation have reactivated their subscriptions to World of Warcraft," said Morhaime in an Activision Blizzard financial call.

World of Warcraft now boasts over 11 million paying subscribers; a number that is likely to grow when second expansion Wrath of the Lich King arrives on 13th November.

Morhaime reckons there will be 15,000 midnight launch events to celebrate the release of what could become the fastest selling PC game ever. The current leader, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, sold nearly 2.4 million copies in just 24 hours.

The result of all this popularity is an expected revenue of over one billion dollars for the second year running, according to Morhaime, who eats golden Coco Pops.

Thankfully, plenty of this money has been poured into making Wrath of the Lich King, and the results are shaping up to be tremendous.

Head over to our World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King gamepage for all of our extensive coverage so far.

I think when you cancel an account it asks if you are leaving for another game and which game it is.  Lol, but way to jump to the evil spy conspiracy theory right off the bat.

-Currently Looking forward to SGW and Fallen Earth. If they suck then I give up...

When you cancel your subscription in WoW, you have to answer why you are leaving.

That's how they got those facts

When you cancel a WoW subscription it offers you the chance to fill out a survey listing reasons why you are leaving.  Some of the options list other MMOs (warhammer, aoc) that you are joining as a result of canceling WoW.

If those accounts reactivate then people have returned, but this type of press release is attempting to give the reader the impression that those people have also left Warhammer/Conan.  I know it doesn't state that, but I am fairly certain that it the intention they are trying to give.

"Kill it, Frag it, Nuke it; I don''t care just so long as it dies"

I think they really did themselves a service in WotLK with the addition of the Deathknight. I'm sure that will be a huge draw to returning players, I know it is for me. Though personally I don't feel like they're doing anything incredibly innovative (ie though they're adding siege weapons those will only be available in instanced BG's). But what I think did hurt them is the decision to make Death knights only creatable on the realm you have your 70. I know that I really wanted to play w/ my friend (horde) on his server but my pally (alliance) is on a different server, and both of us don't really want to level up alts that bad.

Great signature.

The siege engines are in open world PvP (maybe in instanced battelground also, I dont know).   Only in the PvP world zone, but still open world.

Also you can make a death knight on the server you have a level 55 character and then transfer it over to a new server.  I'm pretty sure you can do that right now.  You might even be able to make a horde death knight even if you only have an alliance toon.  Don't take my word for that though as I might be very wrong.

I play on a PvP server, I feel like the whole world should be a PvP zone with actual consequences pertaining to my character development and the world- put the "war" in Warcarft finally. Yeah I do know about the 55 thing, but I'm pretty sure the same rules still apply when creating a character.

exactly, Nov 13th could be the best thing that ever happened to WAR ... then maybe the rest of us non WoWbois can help steer the game away from being "just another WoW clone".

personally i could give two craps if Mythic doesn't get a million subscribers, As long as there is enough subscribers to fill RVR(which there will be) and for it to stay afloat, which is about 250k and i have no doubt it will meet those two goals easily.
