SCULLY: What do you think? MULDER: I can''t believe how much faith we put in machines. |
I suppose you could call me a fairly casual player. My wife and I just had a baby so I play a little before I go to bed and sometimes while the baby is asleep. All summed up I play about 1-2 hours a day. But I think I got left behind. I started playing the game on day 1 and it was cool. Always someone to do the PQ's with and you could see people running around you to talk to and role play with. Now, I just do quests all by myself. I look at the open groups manager all the time, but it's only helpful maybe a little at most. It's empty too. I'm playing on Ostermark, and it was one of the servers they were trying to get people to move to. I think maybe everyone just advanced on past me. Is this right or am I missing something? It's hard to get people to do quests with anymore. This is one of the reasons I was so excited about getting to play something other than WoW. I got left behind in that game too. I see all the fun dungeons and quests to do in WoW but never got to do them because they were empty, everyone was top heavy on the level scale. I thought maybe WAR would do something creative to solve this kind of problem. Maybe I am just not committed enough to be an MMO player???? I'm asking. All these games seem to end up the same for me. Lonely. Should I just brush off the single player games? |

You should try Lord of the Rings, that might be more your cup of tea. |

I kind of dig a little questing along with the RvR so I can get to personalize my character. I know, I'm a weirdo. They did make roleplaying servers though, so I thought that the PvE would be at least half their focus. It's sort of turning into DAoC for the new player here too. Alright, I understand. I'll move on. I hate to though. I was pretty excited about a new game to explore and make friends in. |

Looks like we're in the same shoes. I started on day one playing on one of the biggest servers that actually got cloned later on. I used to play very casually though, max 1 to 2 hours a day. It was a blast at first, but once I moved to tier 2 it appeared the PQ areas were deserted and there was barely anyone in the zone questing and let's not even mention RvR areas. I really wanted to catch up with folks that already moved on to higher tiers by soloing and playing scenarios in between. What really put me off was the fact that there was not enough quests to progress soloing, and on top of everything some were just leading to PQ areas which you just can't do alone past part 1. I believe if you determined enough you could possibly play this game the way it is not intended until you reach higher and more populated areas, the choice is yours. Personally, I think I accepted the fact that maybe MMOs are not for me anymore. As much as I agree most of them are casual friendly and cookie-cutter dumbed down games, I just cannot justyfy paying for them while having single player experience. |

Originally posted by Wigan Well, a single player experience built for multiple people. That's the really bad thing about it. It makes me feel like I'm standing outside an amusement park with a closed sign on the gate. It's so weird. The whole time I'm running around on the lowbie content I keep thinking that they sat there and spent all the development time and artistic effort to put these zones together for practically no reason. If it's a game that was to be centered around PvP, then they should have just made one big PvP zone, dropped everyone in there, and just let them all play together. I feel kinda weird having to jump through hoops to get to where everyone is at. |

I guess the key question Porgie would be... Do you LIKE Warhammer? You are the only one who knows yourself that good (other than your Mom I guess). Only you know your true likes/dislikes. You have to ask yourself are you a PvP fan at heart, or a PvE fan. If you are pvp, then you may want to stick around. This game is supposed to be all about the Pvp. Youll keep hearing from the Whammer fans "wait some more, give it time" or "switch servers" or whatever. If you are a story/quest driven guy at heart, this is NOT the game for you. While there is some questing/missions, it is nowhere near other MMOs that are PvE based storylines (LOTRO, WoW etc). It has some lore but unless you know stuff about Warhammer its pretty dull, least I thought. This "alternate Victorian 1800s universe" didnt appeal to me. I found all those handlebar mustaches and gear designs kinda tiring. Maybe if I had read the books, I'd have a better appreciation for those models? You say you play about 1-2 hours a day.. thats gonna spell big trouble for you in this game, when most times for getting into some true PvP here takes at least 30 mins by most accounts on these forums. There is simply no way you are going to log into Warhammer, get on and play anything meaningful in 1-2 hours when you figure in wait times or times when places are empty waiting for people to get in there and attack something. At least that was my experience, I was on the Tor something server and the times sitting around killing mobs cause nothing was happening were way too often. About 3 weeks in, I started getting this feeling in my gut that I had given this game a chance ( I was playing around 8 hours off/on a day) and it wasjust WAY slow for things to develop. I was in-between MMOs so I stuck around more since I was paid up. But all along I couldnt shake that feeling that I should stop playing as I was getting more annoyed at the lack of people. The game didnt have enough stuff to do while waiting. At least in other games, there was huge amounts of crafting, fishing, other side stuff to do while waiting for groups. This game just didnt have that going on so boredom was heavy at those low times. Eventually I did quit Warhammer and I must say I feel better about it long term. Fallout 3 has just been released and I'm having a ball with that so far. In posts like yours, it is usually the case that someone already knows deep down inside they don't like something about a game, but cannot quite put their finger on it. It's something nagging at them and they find it a struggle to log in and when they do, they think of quitting while they are playing it. I think you already know what you want to do honestly. I think you might be looking for pros/cons one way or the other. I wouldn't go off that. If you honestly like this game and think its fun, stick around. If you have a feeling that its going slow or no where like a bad relationship, you know when to call the lawyer and get a divorce too. Good luck either way. (But try Fallout3.. you will love it.) |

From what I've gathered from the forums, right now the secret to success/fun in WAR goes as follows: 1) Roll (or re-roll) on a highly populated server. 2) Make sure you find a good guild/clan to join 3) Plan on jumping into the scenarios asap and level up to 40 as quickly as possible. 4) Game's open world RVR really begins at 40 where the action is. PQ's are dead for the most part unless you can bring your own guild group to the table, open world RVR is dead on most servers at the lower levels, and meaningful PVP is not the watchword of this game. Role playing.... doubtful, heck, most servers no one will even talk, hard to role play under those circumstances. |
