Problem is I don't believe they ever innovated in the first place.  They perfected old ideas and made that model new and fun again for some.  Problem is after 4 years alot of people who are buying the expansions as they are meant for those who made it to the under rungs of the game... want something new.  Adding more of the same is fine if you leave that to maybe 25% - 35% of the expansion for comfort, but for a game to live beyond its veteran playerbase, you have to give them new toys to play with.

My toddler hardly uses the same toy over and over and over again without getting bored.  He always needs something else to keep him busy or interested.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. To be innovative they would need to make major changes to what's basicaly a formulaic experience. That hasn't worked out so well with oher MMOs

Even sandboxes have fundamental rules such as; "Don't eat the cat poop, you'll die."

Why would Blizzard fundamentally change a game that has had sustained growth over the last four years?  We could debate some of the smaller changes, like Wintergrasp and DK, but the game itself is the same.  For a heck of a lot of people, that's fine.

No offense, but yeah ....

Because the game is the product that drives the business, if a business doesnt adapt and diversify then it cannot sustain growth.

I know you might think this doesnt apply to a product such as WoW but history is litterd with examples of products much bigger and much more successfull which proves its the natural order of things.

Microsoft is a perfect example of this,  it failed to diversify for the internet and was left behind, now Google even Yahoo absoloutly PWN Microsofts search engines.

Even windows has been unable to sustain its growth, with Mac's portion of the market growing every year due to its diveristy.

The landscape is also littered with the remains of companies that diversified and moved away from their core business and failed. The banking industry is a fine example at the moment. If you want to deversify you introduce new products you don't try to turn toasters into microwave ovens.

They have 11+ million people subscribing why would they listen to the few that complain about lack of change or newness, apparently your opinions do not matter, the 11+ million however do.

And to say they won't continue to grow and expand is laughable actually, they are gonna keep on truckin away and more people are going to play, some will leave sure, but more join to fill in the gaps.

I have played most of the mainstream mmo's and I have left WoW multiple times only to come back because WoW is fun, and it is enjoyable and I don't need to waste my life to get somewhere.  That is their secret and that is why there are so many people still playing.

So you can sit there and say change or you will fail, but frankly you sir are wrong!  They win, you fail...

/flame on :)

I agree.  Im not suggesting blizzard 'move away' from their core business.  Nor am I suggesting they alter 'fundamental game mechanics'  But diversifying often means 'adding' to your product range.

Since they are adding another 10 levels they have a perfect opportunity to diversify those ten levels, much like Lotro have done with MoM (Legendary items + challenge system)

But since I dont play WoW, (nothing to do with the game play.. I dont like the look and feel) I cant really comment, however, wasnt there supposed to be a new siege system for Wow?  Kind of like the AoC Guild city sieges etc?

Seems to me that as soon as another MMO comes up with a great new idea Blizzard copy n paste n drape.  I am actually suprised to hear people say its the same old same ole.

Maybe people havnt got to end game yeT?

This does not apply just to WoW, but players expect too much.  LOL
