The usual route is to let some people from IGN, or PC gamer, or something like that play the beta and give a beta review. And it's not a big risk because they always give a very sympathetic beta review. I've never seen one that really ripped a beta. They always say, from the limited amount of content we were able to access the game looks very good so far, blah, blah blah. Are you kidding me? Ask ANYONE that was in Lord of the Rings Online beta. This the exact same thing they did. Stop trying to look for reasons to bash the company. One of my "first beta impressions" as the one picked for the bi weekly release they did on the LotRO site. |

This is the way the Darkfall ends Not with a beta but a whimper. |

Can Aventurine afford another 3-6 months or more of development, are the developers and part owners/investors still willing to continue working on and funding this game. Will they ever get a US publisher if they cant even launch in Europe when they say they will, with the only publisher they have managed to get. What will Jade El Mehdawi the CEO and largest current investor in Aventurine and Darkfall do if 2008 launch does not happen, will he/she pull the plug like the previous investor did under Razorwax. Will any other company’s in the future be interested in having anything to do with Aventurine after is has shown its word is worthless. How many of the over 100,000 thousand new community members will still be community members if open beta and launch don’t happen as promised. Will the developers simply repeat what they did in 2003 after failing to meet their commitments, find new investors, leave Greece and start another company in another country, hopefully not Libya. Will the developers announce they have postponed the launch of their feature complete ready for release game “due to circumstances beyond their control” and “the marketing considerations and their landscapes” The answers to all these tantalising questions of utmost importance and much much more will be revealed “soon”. |

I'll give you a simple example of how totally idiotic and incompetent the people building Darkfall are. Just a simple example. And I'll blame this totally on the "producer" Tasos.. They could have hired for a measly few thousand dollars a motion capture studio to develop a few sets of animations for them... Instead what do we get? Some horrid hand animations that look like they were made by a highschooler. simple thing to do and not even costly.. yet completely neglected and overlooked. Fuck me if that's quality assurance that Tasos old boy likes to tout all the time. so... a game you've never played is bad because a couple of animations are just average?
i love how desperate the trolls are these days. |

No one second guessed the LotRO beta quotes when they came out. You know why? Because idiots like you had long since moved on to WoW. It had one of the most troubling and sketchy development histories I've ever experienced, and STILL, no one was going around pretending their beta reports were fake. One of those reports was mine even, because I had been testing from alpha. |

None of that is strange. The strange part is that no one was commenting on any of the major core features of the game.. City Building/destruction... Ships combat.. Guilds.. Large Battles <------ The fact that nothing of large battles was mentioned is pretty good proof that they have maybe 15 people running around. You would think that 6 weeks before launch they would be doing everything they can to get as many people on the server to stress test it and test out all the City building and battle features since that is what the entire game is based on. Yes I agree.
The Mounts and Mounted combat are but a small part of a very large percentage of features that were not covered in those Beta Quotes.
From the one tester that was working on Crafting it sounded like he was able to get up to skill level 25-30 before they reset the characters. I would imagine that those concentrating on combat skills would have been able to get to a similar level, but none of them said for sure. Since each skill can get up to level 100 that leaves a large percentage of the skill-base that has yet to be tested. Not sure how they how many new abilities that you acquire as your skill rises, but obviously there would be more complex abilities/spells/etc. that accrue the higher the skill level.
With that in mind; which would be harder to balance and test? The beginning skills/abilities/spells or the more advanced and higher level abilities/spells? That is the part that I'm really shocked that they have held off so long with testing.
DarkFall's Devs have said they hope to have over 500 skills and 500 spells in the game at release. They haven't confirmed how many of those are in or out yet. To me that means they haven't committed which features are for sure in or out yet for release. Not a big deal if release is sometime next year... A VERY big deal if release is less than 6 weeks away! It's going to be tough to get even a modicum of testing done on what they have in already. They need to lock it down and get it tested. ALL of it tested, as they have been telling us they have done and been doing.
Oh well, I'm rambling again... guess that happens when a person tries to post in-between phone calls and work. |

These quotes does not seem fabricated. Although they raise some concerns that and calm some for me. A bit sad about the crafting part. |
