"If you warn me about global warming once more, you''ll get a swift carbon footprint in the ass!"

I've seen so many science fiction shows where a certain group of people work like mad to keep knowledge of the existence of aliens from the general public.  The reason?  The old cliche, "The world is not ready to learn that there are aliens out there."

So that begs the question, "When would the world be ready to learn it?"  I'm not saying there are aliens out there, but suppose there are.  What would it take for humans to discover that and not freak out?  Would it help to discover them before they arrive in our solar system?  Like building a telescope powerful enough to see their planet and their cities and spying on them before they spy on us.  Or would humans freak out regardless of how we discovered it?

"I hate newspapermen. I regard them as spies, which, in truth, they are. If I had my choice I would kill every reporter in the world, but I am sure we would be getting reports from Hell before breakfast." - William T. Sherman

When will the public be ready?  At the same moment they will be ready for anything besides clocking in at their slave labor job, filling their faces with fat, and staring at a TV set...  Never.

"I find your lack of faith disturbing."

The world has been ready for a long time; the trouble is, such knowledge would decrease our faith in government, decrease their supreme power, and thus, if such information is true, they would have to keep it a secret to maintain what they cling to.

I think time travel and people coming back from the future is more likely than aliens from another galaxy. What if UFO sightings and Roswell were actually people from the future?

I've heard this theory before.  It's an interesting one.  I mean which makes more sense, the idea that humans from the future possess the ability to bend time-space or the prospect that aliens from another planet could travel thousands of light years across the galaxy and visit our little backwater planet?

Don''t Panic!!!!

IMHO, you can't really pinpoint a specific time We will be ready. It's an event, that if it happened, we would have no control over. We will probably not be the ones desiding when the time is right, they will obviously.

"Prepare for the anal probing human. Zeek get the R.I.P.P.E.R. 9000 ready. Human, you will feel quite a bit of discomfort"

Are you ready?

"Easy" only equals "better" for crack addicts and MMORPG developers.

Well being after hundreds of years there is still so much prejiducism. I mean some ppl still think other races are inferior. So if ppl can't get over their own petty hate of each other cause of race/relgion what makes you think we would ever be ready to accept aliens from another planet into our culture?
