i was playing a game like this like 2 days ago, cause mmorpg was handing out free trial, i dont remember the name though. WWII-something i think. This was world war 2 and not modern time though.

Anyways, the concept was great, you choose from 3 factions in this game, french, english and germans, and you were battling for cities over a very large area, in the start you would choose between the army, the air force and the navy, as you lvl up you get acces to better gear, and all the gear was realistic to its time, weapons, plains, cars, guns.. everything.... BUT, the GFX was VERY bad... and it had some major bugs, like every 20 min i would get a error that would restart my computer, i uninstalled it and havent have problems with that since, so i know that was what caused it.

The game was in first person, also when flying plains you would see the cockpit, all the panels and stuff.

when you enter a group, and join their mission in taking a city, you would spawn at some airfield or a city where people who have chosen air force will be able to either fly a bomber or fly para troopers to the city (mission) you are going to. first time i went in a plain to go to a city the flight took like 5 min. thats a huge freaking world. but as i said the gfx in this is very very ugly.

it is a 1-shot-kill game.

this is the best i can explain the game, anyways some of you might know the game im talking about.

But i was wondering if there is any military mmorpg that takes place in modern or old times, with decent gfx?

It's about time anyway. 

Getting pretty bored playing all these old World War games, it's time for something new.

Nope, no modern or early historical war game MMO's

About 2 years ago they were talking about a Call of Duty MMO but it looks like that went out the window with CoD 5 releasing (back to WWII, Pacific this time)

There was also a brief mention of an war MMO based on Tom Claney's novels. That one disappeared and was never mentioned again.

IMHO, the last 3 years of failed fantasy MMO's have given this genre a serious blackeye and I don't think to many investors are interested in them right now.

You could give Planetside a try. That's Sci-Fi but it use to be a great persistant shooter back when people played it.

Tabula Rasa is a pretty good Sci Fi action MMO. They have capture points, psuedo FPS style combat (but in the third person) and rocket launchers that actually kill stuff in one shot plus a fairly strong RPG aspect. Its problem is that its PvE focused.

Other then that, stick with regular shooters. MMO's make poor wargames, they are to slow paced and simple. If they speed up the play tempo to much like in Tabula Rasa's or Planetsides case, the general community can't deal to well with it. MMOers like that slow paced auto attack play. Throw them an EQ or WoW clone where they can kill 10 rats standing front of them and they are happy little campers.
