oh god xfire hour posts lets all run around screaming that the world is on fire. pls xfire is not a good way to base your observations because 1. a small percent of the pop has it and 2. not everyone turns it on when they are playing. if the number of ppl who used xfire was greater than you could probably come up with some rough estimate but as of right now not enough ppl use it

It was fun for a while, but way to linear, even the rvr. The rvr was kind of a joke if you ask me, like if they took doac's rvr, took everything fun and interesting out of it, then put it on a WoW-style clone, for teenie boopers to play with.

Ok, so why don't we use server populations then?   60% of NA servers are being emptied by players transfering to fuller servers.   In EU, that number will be closer to 85% (servers that have been low/low for a month).  Of course who knows when they will get around to doing the transfers in EU.  You can also read any forums and one of the biggest thing active players want is more server merges.

I don't know.. seems pretty close to the 75% drop we are seeing on Xfire.

You can also read forums where people are quotiing guild numbers ..   10 players left out of 130...  20 left out of 100... etc etc.  those posts are all over the other forums

Now look at Amazon.com and any other sales charts you can find.   Warhammer is now out of the top 100 on any chart, no matter how you break it down.   Even for just PC game sales you can't find Warhammer anywhere.

There is no evidence out there that contradicts Xfire showing Warhammer  with 200-250k subscribers, but there is a ton of evidence that supports it.

I am not going to argue over the validity of the numbers here, but I will say what I have observed.   There are definitely less people around this week.   I started doing searches on the WarDB on prominent guilds on my server.   I wanted to see the activity levels of the members of some of the most active rvr guilds.

What I found out is that a lot of people haven't logged in during the last 4 days.   So what was the event?  Basically is it 2 fold.   The first thing is Lich King was released.  The second is the 16th of the month is the last day of the billing cycle for people who started at launch.  A lot of people who had cancelled their accounts were allowed to play up until 4 days ago, so that may explain why you are seeing a drop off.  There is a trend, and it is downward.

90% of the world is ignorant.. The other 10% just don''t give a fuck..

Xfire statistics are basically the same as polling during election season.. No, it is not the "final" answer, but a trend is a trend..

To say that Xfire is the end all is false, but so is discrediting the actual human beings who's gameplay sessions are recorded for statistical breakdown..

So what, it's not a majority when the world is concerned BUT they ARE humans and they ARE gamers who are showing everyone what they play when they play and for how long, so they do matter when talking about a trend..

It's not a useless stat and should at least serve to show the opinion of random gamers who use xfire..

I still don't understand why companies go through so many hoops to hide their numbers from people.. Why become ashamed of your numbers if they reflect how well or poor your game is doing?

It's so confusing to the people on low/low servers who are led to believe that there are a decent amount of people on their server (by the fact that mythic refuses to shut some of them down and merge).

$$$OE$$$
"We got your game"
(and we screwed it)

To be accurate we'd need a profile of the Xfire player, if there is one. Then we'd know that kind of player is the one leaving the game, maybe a more hardcore type of player is more likely to use Xfire, I dont know.

Then, we'd need to know if Xfire is causing the drop in numbers, maybe a new relase that is not working or that people don't like. I mean a chang in Xfire itself.

That said, probably a decrease in Xfire numbers will mean also a decrease in general.

Only if you do your exit polling very badly by basing it on a minority of obscure locations.

Xfire is just a niche product popular with a minority fanbase that offers nothing that special.

So what, it's not a majority when the world is concerned but they are humans and they are gamers who are showing everyone what they play when they play and for how long, so they do matter when talking about a trend..

This is where the logic really falls apart, that is like saying that it would be safe to do 'exit polls' in areas of known political bias because they are still humans with the right to vote.

Correct It isn't entirely useless, it refects Xfire users perfectly.

I agree with you on this, but it is probably orders from the corporate inverstors.

It's so confusing to the people on low/low servers who are led to believe that there are a decent amount of people on their server (by the fact that mythic refuses to shut some of them down and merge).

I don't know why they created so many in the first place. Merging servers is always interpreted by many people as a 'Death Knell', even when if they had just created fewer of them to begin with it might not have been such an issue.

The problem with using Xfire to predict trends is that it is more akin to being able to tell 'which way the wind might be blowing' than being able to predict the next 'Hurricane Katrina'.

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

WoW, EQ II, and LoTRO have all launched expansions in the last week.  Together those have to have had some impact in WAR.  I know that I personally haven't set foot in the game since MoM launched.  Of course I'm also keeping my account up for the time being.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Maybe in US (altho I highly doubt it).

here in EU most players have simply quit!

GOA has screwed up so bad with so many things, that a lot of players have grown tired of frustration and just gave up!

We have 61 server
