MMORPG.com EverQuest II Correspondent Vernon Reich writes this overview of the races available in SOE's EverQuest II. In this part of his article, Vernon looks at the Good aligned races.

With a new expansion freshly out of the gate, it's time to take a fresh look at this MMO and it's content to see if it's time to join it, or maybe re subscribe. With that in mind, here is one of several upcoming articles reviewing the many parts of EQ2.

This is part one of a three part guide to EQ2's races, broken down by alignment. This guide should give you a clear idea of what you want to play and what they can do.

First off, don't worry even a little bit about racial stat modifiers. The class-specific equipment you gain as you play more then compensates you for whatever minor deficiencies you have in the first few levels due to your race, so worrying too much about picking a bad race for a class shouldn't be a concern. Your real decision should be, do I like the race enough to keep looking at its back side for eighty levels? If the answer is no, don't pick it! Having said that though, there are some differences that may affect your decision beyond, 'will I look awesome in end-game gear?'

Let them hear my utter and complete lack of a voice. - Waking Life

The alternate models (which EVERYONE uses) look much better than the old ones that Jon Wood Shows here. Keep in mind the ones that Jon wood reviewed NOBODY AT ALL uses anymore... /sigh /ignore jonwood.

Well, as hurt as I am about being fake /ignored... I will look into the model images... but I didn't actually write the article. Not that I mind the slander but it's just kinda sad.

You are quite wrong in your assertation that everyone uses the Soga models. Thanks for speaking for the whole subscription base without asking us all first.

You are an idiot. no one I know uses those Anime looking ugly assed models...

There is no good from this expansion. it's not new, exciting or award wining. It's rehashed, reused content from EQ2 and reused concept from EQ1. SOE has once again suckered it's fanboi base into buying nothing more than old content under a bright and shiny paint job...How many times are you fanboyz going to pay money for the same lame crap over and over...?

I'm not a huge fan of the alternate models either.  But then, I can't stand anime either.  I know it's a dead horse but I think the SOGA models were just an (failed) attempt to attract the kiddies now that a huge portion of their player base has moved on to bigger and better things.

I've always liked this game.  In fact, it is one of my favorite MMOs to date.  However, I've read the feature list of the new expansion.  I'm sad to say that this will be the first EQ2 expansion that I won't be buying.

EQ2 is a dying game, no matter what SOE is trying to tell it's players. Literally hundreds of thousands of players have deserted them since release and it's loyal customer base has dwindled down to the point I can't see how they are making much in the way of profit. Hence things like LoN, a not so clandestine RMT system was introduced, no truly new content is being developed, and there is zero advertising budget. A friend of mine traveled to 6 stores to try to find copies of this new expansion. Now we live in a major city and stores like Best Buy ordered 2 copies per store? Their shelves were half full of the WoW expansion. Each store ordered 100 copies and most stores had sold at least half by that afternoon...3 of the store clerks didn't even realize that EQ2 was still in existence!

SOE is ripping their customers off. Reselling old, used content and concepts as if they were new. They should hang their heads in digusting shame. The sad part is, these SOE Fanboiz will continue to buy the expansions...And SOE will continue to treat their customers like $hit until enough quit the game...by then it will be too late...actually, it already is too late..EQ2 is doomed.

no game will last forever, but EQ I is still alive and kicking.  EQII is not going away anytime soon.  Heck, Ultima online is still going.  I plan on the RMT server.  The population is healthy.

Sure WOW won the numbers game by a large margin, but so what.  A sucessful EQII expansion sells like 100,000 copies.  This is a tiny fraction of wow.

As an EQII player, I'm ok with that.  The game is imperfect, but I like where the game is going and the pace that it is moving.

There is one major difference between the makers of most MMOs and SOE. Sony Corporation is a publicly held and traded company. That means they have stock holders and a board of directors who's job it is to make sure ALL Sony products are profitable. Stockholders won't tolerate a company that has products that lose money, and especially one that loses market share to competition. Once EQ2 becomes non profitable and the board of directors gets an earful from the stock holders (and SOE has to report it's profit and loss annually to Sony Corporate and they in turn have to make it public) SOE may not have a choice but to pull the plug on EQ2.

As far as EQ1 goes, it has a much larger population than EQ2 does and EQ1 is pushing 10 years old...that says alot for it's staying power, but it also speaks to the failure of EQ2.
