Darkfall

Overhyped games always end up failing (see WAR). So why do people have such confidence in Darkfall?

Because it's Darkfall, Darkfall knows all!

Probably just the universes way of countering all the muffins who have so much confidence in it failing.

I really don't think Darkfall could be considered OVER HYPED.   Darkfall has the most insignificant exposure of any MMO I've seen to date.  The Hype is all word of mouth.  How can that lead to a failure? I don't think you really thought this through befor you posted it.  Darkall is the least hyped MMO i've ever watched.  Age of Conan was the most, And Warhammer a close 2nd.    Both of these games suck, but I dont think what people say about a game, has anything to do with this.  I think the developers just really missed their mark or  had sight of a mark that wasn't as fun as they thought it would be after 3 months.

Because people just have this feeling that right around the corner is the next big thing in MMORPGs, and they are tired of WoW.

For a while it was Dark and Light. Then DArk and Light flopped, and now it's Darkfall.

If Darkfall flops, it will be something else. Some people have already stated if Darkfall isn't the next big thing, like they hope it is, they are moving on to Mortal Online, a game with so far only  a short video and one screenshot.

It's the idea of a really cool MMORPG, that's not an EQ clone, and not WoW. It doesn't really matter what the game is. Darkfall is just a place holder. There will always be a game in development that people will hope is hte next big thing.

 People aren't loyal to Darkfall, they're just loyal to the idea of the next big thing. If Darkfall flops, they'll drop it like a hot potato, and act like they never cared that much about it, and start posting about the next game that has potential to be something really great.

Well I think it could be overhyped, people are expecting this game to be something totally new. There really isnt anything new in DF , its just some features that we havent seen in a while.  They expect this to be the best game ever and when they play it their expectations are to high. Thats why games can fail, that is probobly the main reason why most games fail.

I don't see many people expecting it to be 'new' at all, in fact, in my travels most people (myself included) are simply hoping that it's just a modern version of UO.

Hell, even if it's half the game UO was I'll be happy.

Yeah I never played those games. My computer dindt have a good graphics card to play those. My first mmo was EQ but FFXI was the one ive played the longest and just came back to it again. No other game just is right for me.

I think the naesayers balance out the fanboys rather nicely on this issue, actually.  So I wouldn't go so far as to say that everyone has confidence in Darkfall.

It's not over hyped there's been almost no hype at all from the devs, just one video and a few screenshots.

Also I don't think the majority of people following the game are expecting it to be mind blowingly amazing.  People are hoping that it will be playable and have no game breaking faults like other recent releases have had. 

Most people I've seen using phrases like "the next big mmo" or "the best mmo ever" are people bashing the game of which there are many.  If you read what people genuinely hoping it will succeed are saying they are mostly realistic and realise failure is the norm for mmo's and that Darkfall could easily be next on the list.
