Right. So the lore fans that completely forgot the Hurons are clearly lackingin the lore fan catagory. And seriously Tolkien never goes into to depth about Fangorn and EVERYTHING that is in there. There could be just about anything in there. |

Too many people seem to think they know all about the lore just because they watched the movie a few hundred times, and that because it wasnt in the lotr trilogy then its lore breaking. |

This reminds of of the epic debate in the beta forums about red squirrels vs. gray squirrels. The devs used the "wrong" colored squrrels and it spawned a huge multi-page thread about the "correct" color of squrriels in Middle Earth. Which brings me to my point. As important as lore is having a fun game is more important. If the game is not fun no one plays the game dies. As a player I want the game to stay alive and grow so i am willing to accept lore violations if it improves the game. Turbine must balance the two issues carefully and I don't envy them this task. If this game was run by Sony they would have chucked the lore right out the window about now, so they could get more players and in the process alienate their whole player base so they quit. They would have also revamped the whole basic game mechanics so new players would hate the game and effectively destroyed the game. So just count your blessing OP and hope Turbine never decides to go this route. |

But don't worry, Turbine stopped caring about the Lore the second they changed this game from Middle Earth Online to LotRO, and focused on instances and storytelling instead of actually living in and experiencing Middle Earth. The game died that day. |

But the problem is that players assume that if you stick to the lore it automatically equates to "no fun". There is a difference between bending the IP so that it works as a game (IE trainers, skills, auction houses, crafting, etc) and just making changes because it might be fun. If this game was to stick to the lore completely, a lot of things just wouldn't be, that's so true. For instance, Bree was not over run with dwarves and elves among humans. Yet in the game it is the hub city. Infering a class based upon the characters in the book is also acceptable to me. But adding things that just aren't there won't necessarily make the game fun. They "could" or "could not". My thougth is that there is so much there in the IP that one doesn't need to add things "just because". |

The game died that day. Yup and there is NO EVIL ENTS in LotrO and there isnt 3 balrogs in LotrO so what are we discussing? There is 1 balrog in the Rift and if you have it you know why and how it is there.. Oh so they decieded to make a game based on a book focused on storytelling? Now thats a big surprise... Please tell me how it would be possible to make a Lotr sandbox that would be in line with the lore cause Im really want to know... Giving alot of immature gankers freedom to do what they want in ME would really fit with the books Im sure... In my opinion if you are going to make a sandbox it should be and original IP and not based on any book.
