How is the gameplay in EVE. From what I understand, a single person can purchase an entire fleet for themself over time. Is the UI sufficient for controlling the entire fleet simultaneously(or even a few ships simultaneously)? Does the person at the console control the ships or do they set up scripts for combat(or is it just autoattack)? Is it turn-based?

How necessary are tradeskillers in EVE? I have read about mining in EVE. Is mining necessary? Does each serious corporation require close contacts for mining ore or is ore super cheap on some sort of barter system thereby eliminating the necessity of friends who have mineral resources? If the market is so saturated with resources that anyone with a little time put into the game can afford as much as they want then where does the politics come in(politics is all about resource acquisition either material or personel)?

I know the previous poster can't possibly be representative of the thoughtful player base in EVE.

there can be 2 things :

He might have thought you were a troll because all the questions you are asking about are answered in many places both here and on the main site.

Here's a few quick answers though:

1. You only control 1 ship at a time but can own as many as you want.

2. You control your ship by essentially giving it commands which it then executes. (i.e. move in this direction, target this enemy, fire these guns etc) but it is not a flight simulator, it's more like a naval simulator. The smallest of the ships (frigates) are larger than 747's so no dogfighting.

3. Tradeskillers are essential to this game as all the ships/modules/ammo etc are made exclusively by the players. Mining is also done exclusively by players but neither mining nor building are mandatory when playing the game. The economy is completely player driven and is the most indepth economy in any game.

Also skills train in real-time so you can't grind a skill to max. You basically buy it and then tell it to train to level 1-5 and it takes an exponentially longer amount of time for each skill level.

If you are truly interested in the game you really should read up a bit on it as there is a mountain of info available and depending on your gaming style you either tend to love it or hate it.

Oh and if you decide to give the trial a try absolutely make sure you finish the tutorial. Yes it's long and can be boring but if you just skip it and then start asking questions in rookie chat the players in there will make cosy here look like a fluffy puppydog.
