"Do you want the Red Pill or the Blue Pill?" ---from The Matrix

OMG you people are bleating about the whichness of why.

Beyond the FACT that this was CLEARLY stated as the terms for the Korean market... Beyond the FACT that, whatever our opinion is of these terms, its a legal requirement over there... Beyond the FACT that NCSoft has not said they will limit North American hours...

Now, if they do, I wouldn't be surprised, as this limitation is bound to seep into the gaming industry from the communications industry, wherein SOME internet providers now limit the bandwidth a RESIDENTIAL account can use the internet. The amount of bandwidth permitted is still ridiculously high [to quote Sean Connery from the movie Entrapment, "What can you do with seven billion dollars that you can't do with four?] but not high enough to support an online business. Should NCSoft decide to limit hours for Aion here in North America, it would only prove that the gaming industry is getting wise to the idea that finite usage may curb abusive exploits (including remianing signed into the game all night while you sleep to man a trading booth or log hours in-game toward the acquisition of a goodie, not to mention using bots and offering RMT services.) So here is what I suggest for all of you: Stop screaming HERE about the sky that isn't falling because it gains you nothing. Return to the real world long enough to write your congressman. They love media-grabbing stories full of half-truths and misinformation.

We do not want people to tell us what to do with our spare time, if it's not harming anyone else it's none of their business.  There is no way I would use 300 hrs in a month, I won't even use half of that, but if they want my money or my vote they aren't going to tell me what I can or can't do unless it's harming somebody else.

Don't you have download usages imposed by your IP?

No and if you read my previous post you will see that I have already said I won't use any company that has download limits.

I do not disagree in principle however there are a key issues with imposing a time limit.

* People pay to play so imposing a time limit counters this in some ways

* If you are in a guild with some players playing 15 hours a day.  There could be an occasion where guild members can not join in events if they are close to the hours played.

My 2 cents worth.

Comcast just imposed them.  250 Gb per month. I think they still advertise the service as unlimited, but not sure about that.

Well, the time limit is not really "countered" at all if it is part of the terms when the game is purchased. You agree to the terms or you don't play. And if you live in Korea, you accept the terms, or you CANT play.

Same with me here and now, regarding my Internet Provider. I live in the boonies. Comcast is my Internet Provider. Comcast limits the amount of bandwidth a residential customer can consume in the course of a month. Maybe I object to this; maybe I don't --- but I'd use them as my Internet Provider anyway because they are the only Provider in my area unless I want to use dial-up (and I'm not talking about the new high-speed dial-ups either). So I have a bizillion megazots of bandwith leftover every month that I can't seem to use up because I am sooooooo limited --- by a company that has a <gasp> monopoly of service in my area. You know I might even feel sorry for myself if I didnt get to play my game.

And yes, down the road, that limit might be reduced. Or I might have to pay by the hour. Like... You know... When telephone service was deregulated? And cable tv jumped into being. Things we paid next to nothing for before? Now suddenly we must pay? What's up with that?

It's called business, my friends. The American Way.
