Before WOW, there were MMORPG''s. After WOW there were online solo single RPG''s. |
I have always thought this, and although the game is 7 years old and the likelihood of a game mechanic change is near hopeless, I would ask them to make this one fix: Have the 30 character points you distribute at level 1 be distributable at level 5 instead. Why? Well, you start out as a generic type, say a fighter, and do not know until level 5 whether you choose to be a paladin or warrior or berserker (just example classes). Now, if you spend all those points at level 1, you are gimped unless you arrange them as best for whatever class you will choose at level 5. All this means is that the choice of a final class at level 5 makes no sense when in reality you are allocating your points ahead of time at level 1. Simple fix, just as I say: let the points be distributed when you choose the final class.

I agree, if you don't know what class your going for exactly at 5, its so easy to screw up with your initial stats. Surprised a little I never noticed this, it is something they should change, but at the same time I can't imagine them getting around to it unfortunately. |

Few people make their final class choice at level 5, they know when they create the character what they plan for it to be, so this isn't really necessary. The "best" stat distribution for each race/class is also easily looked up so again, no real reason for your proposed change.

To learn how to use a sword, one must first master when to use a sword. |
When is the last time you played DAoC? 1. You can now respec the base stats at any time through the character selection screen. 2. You no longer choose a generic class when you start out, when you create your character you choose your only and final class. |

Yes there are no longer base classes. You can move those points around at any time before starting the game. Even putting them in different things does not "gimp" you anyway. Between all of the items and buffs in the game, it matters very little.
And before someone brings up not being able to respec the lines they train as they play: You get free respecs for your spec lines. You can find stones to respec those lines. You can even purchase additional ones for a fee. |

Cool. Yep, it's been years since I played a lot. I do miss the game, however. DAOC was the first game (and arguably the last) to bring realistic weapon and armor graphics to the genre.
