Reading this Darkfall forum, one question comes to mind: what is the maximum time people will follow the game on pure hype? 10 years? 20 years?

I mean lets face it, Darkfall is NOT launching in 2008. Will it launch in 2009, who knows, but looking at their track record I would say no.

All these "reviews", "previews" and other crap are a JOKE. Darkfall devs are probably reading all your "Omg, it's finally going to launch!" posts and laughing their asses off.

They are giving us very little official information, only some weak material from "family and friends beta". This means only one thing: THE GAME IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING READY.

Greatest lesson I learned from Age of Conan scandal was that as soon as devs go silent it means shit has really hit the fan.

It's only hype and hope that keeps Darkfall alive in the hearts of some of our regulars. I'm sure one year from now we will have these same guys here telling each other how awesome the new screenshots are and how the two italian forum mods are going to go do a re-review of Darkfall without NDA.

No maximum. Release one screenshot, one video, one controlled "review", and you start the hype all over again.

I havent really been a part of the Darkfall bickering here, but them being quiet dosent mean a lot. TCoS were very very quiet before launch, and they have gone gold...

Can we take time out to be real and objective here?

Vesavius Truth one... There definitly IS a game.

Vesavius Truth 2... It WON'T go live this year.

Vesavius Truth 3... The Devs ARNT laughing at anyone, they obviously care deeply about this project to have stuck with it this long and put up with the horrendous grief handed out to them on every forum.

That all aside, I am always confused why so many people want a indie dev, who are only offering their ideas up for your consideration and nothing more, and are only going to, at the least, bring diversity to the genre, to so badly fail.

These arguments arnt even about the game anymore, and it's tragic to see so many that have probably moaned about over hyped, cash cow, exploitative games that have been released recently elsewher on these boards rip this one a new ahole everythime they come here.

If it turns out to be a total PoS fair enough, lets judge it as such then,  but at this point, until we know better, Everyone should be supporting DF. If for nothing else, then at least in theory of what it wants to offer and what it stands for.

If we see yet another potentiolly great game go under, and one from an indie no less, the only thing that will sufffer is the genre as a whole as people simply stop making them, especially in the West.

You think thats not a reality?

Think again.

For me to follow a game it first has to have IP that I'm interested in.  There's nothing in the Darkfall IP that remotely interests me.  It's just a generic fantasy world.

That being said, I will follow a game that has IP of interest until it's released but I do not buy into the hype or make any judgements for or against it before launch.  If it still looks interesting at launch I will pick it up and try it for 30 days.  If I don't like it I won't subscribe.

Recent example:  Age of Conan.  I grew up reading the Conan stories written by Howard, Lin Carter, de Camp, and others.  Followed the game casually, didn't buy into the hype.  Tried it.  It sucked.  I don't have time to obsess about a game before launch or lament after I don't like it.  I just move on....

To answer the qustion:

I would imagine that the if the game doesn't release this year, that it will drop by 50% and pick up to around 75% by the time is ready to release.

And to reply to Vesavius..

Why should we support Averturine? Are they a company who has been entirely honest with us during the entire development cycle of Darkfall?  Are they being honest with us now, their future customers?  Are we actually any closer to seeing fruition of Darkfall than we were years ago?

I'm not saying we should drag the company through the mud, but I don't think they've 're-earned' my support.

its true each time aoc delayed there was a sudden silence. I feel that silence now. I wonder if they will actually nake an announcement for just be silent until next year.

Apologies for bad grammar.

Define following a game?  Waiting for it?  I can do that and live my life normally.  Posting in forums?  Vaportrolls post just as much as the followers.  I've followed this game for nearly 4 years and in doing so my life has changed 0.  With that said, I'll continue "following" the game for as long as it releases or is cancelled.

No, I am not saying we should support Adverturine specifically.

I am saying that in the current climate and state of the hobby we should give an indie dev that has obviously struggled to bring their product to market (but is on the verge of doing so anyhow, whether it's this or next year) a fair go and way less hate then what I see here.

Who am I kidding though? Most posters just come here for a fight and nothing more. Not saying you Random, but it's what I see. Most don't even give a damn about DF and what it means and why it would be better for us all if it DOES work.

I will judge the company on what they present at launch. End of.

Until then, I welcome the presence of an indie offering diversity and fresh ideas in what is a trouble genre.

They owe me nothing, they havent taken any money from me, so why would I hate them or indeed feel anything but 'lets see', no matter what they say?
