About the skills developping with the use of a weapon, they of course aren't linked with this particular weapon and aren't lost if you throw it away, but once unlocked they stay unlocked?

Yep, the end game will actually be about the WvW and PVP.  Mark my words.  There are dungeons, and loot to be had from each.  But all most people will care about is server pride, a la DAOC.

That is the best news for an MMO I ve heard in years and years.

Explorers rejoice!  Someone has finally made a game with us in mind.  I can't wait to step off the beaten path and for once, find something!

Hmm I'm a bit worried now. I quit playing AION because at one point it was either grind or do PvP to level and I don't enjoy PvP at all. If end games is either WvW or PvP that makes me sad. I was hoping there would be enough PvE content to take you from start to end game.  =(

Oh god give me my beta key already.

I LOVE the music in that norn engineer video. That's the best immersion tool you want to invest in when doing an mmo; it adds so much depth and atmosphere to the game, and this is a perfect exemple. Finally a mmo I will keep the music on.

Yep, like that.  They're tied to a weapon type.  Each one, and for each class, has different skills.  A rifle's skills will be different for the engineer and different on a warrior.  But once you unlock the rifle's skills, they stay unlocked for all rifles on that class.  Make sense?

There is.  The PVE content is enough to take you from start to end-game and beyond, especially with the effective level mechanic (leveling you down so you don't overpower everything).  So you could level 1-80 as a Norn and then take your Norn to the starting zones of other races to do their content.  On top of that, there are going to be many dungeons, and the same mechanic applies there.  You can get gear from them, even if just for the looks.  So worry not, PVE is A HUGE focus.  I just believe that most of the end-game will be about th WvW, as people will flock to it when they see how massive and fun it is.

HINT: WvW has PVE too.  You don't have to be a great PVP-er to enjoy it.

You guys overhyped every single mmorpg in the last years? Remember the mmorpg reviews of SWTOR? Yes i do i dont beleave anything of any overhyped game anymre.

Get REady for the next overhyped mmorpg that gonna fail after 2-3 months? Whats next hype wave after that.

never played DAOC but from what i read it had quite an extensive alternative advancment options , realm points and such... from this preview i'm sensing there's like...nothing? (except for that "fun" thing) - just saying, if there's nothing tangible to gain for your effort, it's not going to work

i'm interested, just not in  this portal... ever looking for that MMO that will keep me playing for years... i may be cynical..but all the recent failed attempts (RIFT, SWTOR) are not encouraging

The previews on GameSpot mentioned the loot a little. They basically said they were surprised how satisfied they are with it and that finding new weapons has the added bonus of having new and different skills attached to them, which was a great thing. Dual wielding a pistol and a dagger with a thief, for example, opens up new skill combinations and more flexibilty based on what you want to be doing... such as being able to do blinding shots along with dagger attacks afterwards. So it's not just about the stats on the equipment.. it's about the skills on them as well.

Thats the I need rewards crowd that alot of games brought in. If you haven t played DAOC you wouldn t understand the realm/server pride. It was almost everything back in the day. If GW2 can bring even 50% of that back it will be a large success.

It's funny, because at first I had it set on "best performance" by default.  It looked fine to me.  I played most of the weekend this way at a smooth 80FPS.  But then I realized I could tweak it a lot (every option available, including high res textures, AA, etc.).  I bumped it up to the best possible looks-wise.  Ended up still hovering between 40/60 FPS.  Mind you, I have an i5 Sandybridge, 16GB of RAM on Win7 64x, and an nVidia 460gt.  Nothing to scoff at.  My guess is that most people experiencing performance issues were in largely crowded areas of WvW.  Myself? I didn't really ever dip below 40FPS.  I loved it.
