"We''re not making a game for Trekkies" Daron Stinnett, Perpetual Entertainment

And they will still have made more money already than any other MMOG franchise will ever make?  Not even EQ or UO can claim to have made $1,000,000,000 off their MMORPG.  Blizzard makes a BILLION a year.

"I'll take MMO disasters for $50, Alex."

"This MMO release in 2008 lost half its player base in the first month after massive hype of non existent features"

"What is Age of Conan?" ...

"Correct, for $50, Ed2099"!

Is it over yet...

The fact remains no patten goes unrepeated. Eventually another game will produce just as much income as WoW does. Mind you Im not certain whether that will occur with the game crop coming up. Frankly I have my eyes on the smaller companies not aiming for such a huge income. Niche games suit me best. When Fallen Earth and Hero's Journey are active ill be very happy. Im sorta surprised how well Fallen Earth seems to be shaping up. I keep hearing realy good reviews of the game from Game conventions. Not to mention so sweet videos.

"Don''t take life seriously because you can''t come out of it alive."

- Warren Miller

Well I don't know whether it's in the billion's or not, although I'm sure with some research one could get a semi-accurate number and you also have to remember, WoW doesn't run itself for free. You have to take into account a massive amount of expendeture that comes along with the game, it's been rumored that every server has a cost of about $20,000.00 US associated with it, that's before bandwith, maintenance and staff. Multiply that by some 200 servers and that's a heck of a bill.

Then on top of that add all the staff and cost associated with them, not just salaries but benefits, insurance, taxes and even more administrative staff to keep track of them. Then R&D, QA, Equipement, PR, Advertising, Media Relations.. I mean the list goes on and on and you've barely scratched the surface.

Of course WoW isn't their only source of income and which I'm sure they still do very well with their other titles. So yeah, they are certainly not hurting and get along just fine.

But more then any other MMOG franchise will EVER make... I severely doubt that. It's great that WoW is doing well now, I'm super happy for blizzard and for it's fan but sometime in the future a next big thing will come and a game will trump what is currently thought possible, that's just a fact of life in the gaming industry, you can't hold on to everything forever as there is always something big just around the corner.

The thing is they may make what you think is a bad MMO but make hundreds of millions of dollars doing it.
