"We''re not making a game for Trekkies" Daron Stinnett, Perpetual Entertainment

Actually, this is a very good move on their part.  It would piss a lot of people off to get a buddy key from a friend and then not be able to find a copy anywhere to keep playing after a 10 day pass.   Then when they got back in, their guild mates are all 80 while they are stuck at 15 or what ever.

I only say this because EIDOS has done a HORRIBLE job with distribution of copies in NA.  Many department store chains are still waiting for the initial shipment of AoC.

What MMO release in 2008 lost half its player base in the first month after massive hype of non existent features?" ed2099

"What is Age of Conan? ... Correct, for $50, Ed!"

right.

With the buddy pass you will not need to buy the game after you play it from a store shelf.  You'll already have the client on your computer. All you will need to do is purchase it to reactivate the account (purchase online)

There is a war going on for your mind.

It's likely that they are waiting because they don't even have an online purchase system set up yet.

Cover girl cutouts throw pop-ups ads infecting victims with silicone shrapnel. Postproduction debutants pursue you in Nascar chariots. They construct ransom letters from biblical passages and bleed mascara into the holy waters of minds. They flash logos and blast ghettos; their embroidered neckties say stop snitching. They shout at you, 'pay no attention to the man behind the barred curtain nor the craters beneath the draped flag, those hoods are there for your protection.’

So instead you sit at level 0 while your friends are level 80?  Brilliant.

take note:

Funcom has not said how long the delay would be beyond "soon"

it may be longer than 1 month wait

AOC has a "master-apprentice" game mechanic

so friends can group up, regardless of level
