I played DAOC for many years. There is no doubt that Shrouded Isles and Darkness Falls was the best time in the game. They had a balance that was more melee oriented and as a healing class that was much more fun. I played up through the expansion past New Frontiers and even went over to the servers that they made to be more like Old Frontiers. I loved 8 v 8 but even now they have to mess with the game. They are I think testing WAR concepts with Origins to see how they will work out with a larger audience. I know many players are coming back for Origins but I just can't. I have wonderful memories of daoc but have a feeling a trip down a messed up memory lane will ruin them. I am currently playing AOC praying Funcom can clean the game up so it can realize its potential. I also bought the collector addition of war so I will be in the open beta and the release. I will then decide which one I want to play. I hope that everyone who comes back for origins has a great time but be leery of expecting to much because we remember the good things not the bad. |

Well to respond to what I quoted as well as the post in general... I was still playing / having fun on Nimue right up till it was clustered. Then that server went to crap for *me*.
So I quit.. and when Gareth opened I went there. Had a fun time etc right up until the clustered Gareth. With the realm hoppers, blatant use of speed hacks/radar (very obvious in battle grounds) and almost no Eula/RoC enforcement is pretty much what killed DAoC for me. I mean they did some big ban waves.. timed perfectly to hit between the release of EQ2/WoW (forget no enforcement for the previous 4 years). It was things like that which killed DAoC. Origins server sounded like a good idea (we'll do it like we'd make the game if we could go back in time). Then I read the FAQ and realize they still don't get *it*. With what they want to do with Origins *I* wouldn't have been in DAoC past my 30 days that was *free* with purchase. I'm already in WAR beta and have been for a long time. Its not even the fact its under NDA to say more.. its the fact I think *you* should make up your own mind. I already canceled AoC (didn't go past my *free* time) and have no plans to buy WAR. /end ramble
Oh and last thing I'll say...
Ever notice how every game that offers a classic server.. has the highest population on their classic server.
But their lead developer will continue to tell us that we have "rose colored glasses" and its not that we dont' really like their current bright idea. How can people so cluseless be paid to lose subscribers... I mean honestly (and that goes for every MMO out there).

| "We already have two operating MMOs. We launched a game called Ultima Online in 1997. It's still got hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Then there's Dark Age of Camelot, we also have a situation where we have well over 100,000 subscribers." -Frank Gibeau of Electronic Arts. Does it seem odd that UO has more subscribers than the best RvR game on the market? |

Originally posted by Leucent I m not sure i agree with this at all. I was there when DAOC launched. Some of this stuff you say they added onto OF is a string of bad decisions, to me are good additions. I loved DAOC at first and honestly haven t found anything i like as much (WAR beta is the exception). On that note WAR will appeal to the hardcore DAOC fan more then i think you realize :) Anyways on topic. No BGs really won t effect me either way. If they re there i ll play them from time to time. If they re not i ll get my crafting up faster:) I understand BG s are important to alot of people but it really does distract from the purpose of the game in general. The main focus is end game RVR. Actually, I'll have to agree with Antarious. I think many vets and fans of DAoC who are waiting on another amazing PvP MMO will have to wait even longer for one. Or in other words, WAR isn't that great to be honest. |

I dug out my CD's! And spent a good portion of the weekend reinstalling, downloading, and patching... Origins sounds like it will be fun, I hope... Coming back again! Woot! |

DAoC was and still is a pretty fun game. However, you must admit it is a bit outdated given all the good content now available in MMORPGs. I think WAR will be the perfect opportunity for those who loved DAoC to come play the updated version of DAoC. |

The hilarious thing is, is that it's not outdated at all. I could even go further to say that DAoC is ahead of most MMO's being released today (which is extremely sad). List things that are outdated in DAoC.
You can say it's outdated, but if I have more fun on DAoC than say, AoC, WoW, Vang., EQ2, or others, then it doesn't look very outdated. |

Well, some will say that the graphics, controls, and UI are outdated. The thing is though, no one has been able to reproduce the RvR. You'd think that it would be easy enough to just copy DAOCs RvR system, add some features, and add the ability to bust into the enemies realm, but I don't know... I've tried to get interested in WAR (at least a few times) but it just looks to restricted, linear, and instanced to me. Seems much more inline with new MMOs. Of course, Im not in beta and I could be wrong. |

DAoC has survived the release of a lot of games, including WoW. I doubt War will make a difference. |

I'll go ahead and warn you that your predictions of WAR's gameplay are correct. And I also have been baffled by the fact that nobody has replicated DAoC's RvR. Honestly, the graphics controls and UI aren't very outdated at all. Plus, even if they were a little bit, that doesn't affect the gameplay much at all. The game isn't outdated at all. And if you wanted to say it was, then it would only be a little bit. Ironically, the PvP is still WAY ahead of every MMO coming out. Sad... | |
