SOE has posted a preview of Game Update 47: Storm Break for EverQuest II, which includes in-game voice chat, and a level 1-59 item revamp.

EverQuest II In-Game Voice Chat

If you've ever wondered if that Ogre Wizard in your guild sounds more like a Halfling Fury it's now easier than ever to find out! All the functionality of third party voice chats, conveniently located in-game!

Just a few of the features:

  • Create your own password-protected custom channels
  • Automatic channels for Guilds, Raids and Groups
  • Group and Raid windows have speaking indicators
  • Leaders can invite any other players into Guild, Group and Raid channels
  • Moderator controls (kick, ban, mute, etc.)
  • Logitech G15 keyboard integration
  • Ability to individually mute and set volume per user that you can hear
  • Troubleshooting tools to get you chatting instantly!

Our development team has done a great job ironing out all the usual kinks associated with hopping into voice chat for the first time, you can read all about that within the Official EQII Forums here. Chat with your guild, your group, or friends across servers! Read here to see what folks on test have to say about this great new addition.

Wonderful, Another gazillion gig of code on players hard drives that they don't have a choice of loading....Just like the LoN crap you keep pushing down their throats...What's next? forced streaming video from every guild member's perspective?

Yeah I know I don't have to use it if I don't want to...but will SOE give the players the ability to uninstall it or NOT TO INSTALL IT in the first place? Do they ever think about their players at all or are they SO busy trying to make coin that they can think of nothing else?

The population is leaving in DROVES because other games have caught the attention of your players....YOU don't even make a half hearted attempt at keeping them, the game still has bugs that have been there since the release of DoF....There are incomplete zones and content that was promised and never delivered and you go and code a VOIP program like it's the best thing since sliced bread....Ever heard of Ventillo? TeamSpeak? SKYPE? they already exist and if your history shows us anything the SOE version will probably be so buggy  (or cubersome) thet few if any will want to use it....

Go ahead click the link to the comments from TEST SERVER players....the thread on the official forums has been REMOVED...because from what I hear this VOIP sucks so badly not even the test server players will use it...all 25 of them decided it SUCKED

OR>>>>>>>>>>>>it will eat into your bandwidth so badly the in game lag will make EQ2 unplayable....Once again not thinking with anything but your wallets are you SOE????

Fanboyz and SOE bootlickers neeed not respond...

meh I guess people need something to complain about. Anyhow I'm all for anything that just adds more accessibility and options to a game, and if it doesn't work that well....oh well lol it's not a big loss to us. If you can even call it a loss.

Btw not all of their patches are mandatory, they do have you know optional patches. I have not tried this patch yet, so I don't know if this falls under optional or not.

So you are OK with SOE developing something that already exists instead of more content to fend off the mas exodus that AoC has brought on, or at very least fixing broken content and completing content that was promised but not delivered....I guess people will always think SOE can do no wrong....

The only patches that I know of that have been voluntary are voice overs and sound content. My Ventrillo client is a little over 3.5 meg....let's see how big their in game VOIP program is....

They forced us to download LoN which is a huge add-on. They gave us no option and they loaded it on our hard drives without permission...if you want to play EQ2 you have to have LoN content on your drive....wether you play it or not is irrelevant....Once again thinking with their wallets instead addressing concerns of their players...
