So after re-reading the article at Portfolio, I got to thinking - the article specifically says "...it will most certainly have a massively multiplayer online component to it." While this is not a Bioware quote but rather an assumption from Portfolio, it brought a possibility to mind.
My flat-out guess at this point is KoTOR3 will be released as a boxed product or download, and you'll have a choice when starting the game. You can play the standalone game and get a wrapup to the story, bypassing the MMO. Or you can jump right into the MMO with it, skipping the standalone game and some backstory and character development, though I imagine somehow Bioware will compensate you for your loss (/Vader). Final option would be to play all the way through the standalone, and then port your character to the MMO which will either continue the standalone KoTOR3 story or provide a completely different story based on which option you chose at the beginning. Bioware has been known for innovation, and whether you like their innovations or not, you have to admit they are certianly... well, innovative. That said, something like this hasn't really been done before like this, and I wouldn't put it past them. |

The king and the pawn go back to the same box at the end of the day. |
Its not going to be an mmo. It's going to be Kotor Online. It's going to have a few multiplayer bells and whistles.

Ah my favorite brain soup: cream of no where. What''s the matter kid, don''t you like clowns? |
I was wondering why Sony wasn't bragging about a "Burning Clone Crusade" expansion for their World of Starcraft Galaxies. Now I know: the license was given to Bioware....
