Ok, so I just found the petition to silence whiners here.  Now I wanted to take a look at the SWG Veteran Refuge and what it means to me.

It may be wrong.  It may be annoying.  It may tie up the string of tubes that we call the internets, but at the end of the day we all know that Sony changed SWG.  Regardless of whether they made it better or worse, allow me to explain what the SWG Veteran Refuge is meant for starting with the name broken down.

SWG Veteran Refuge

A veteran (from Latin vetus, meaning "old")[1] is a person who is experienced in a particular area, and is particularly used in Russia, Canada and the United States to refer to people with experience in the armed forces or law enforcement.  With this in mind, statistics reveal that pre-NGE had 100,000 the most players in-game which would mean that the majority of Veterans would come from the pre-NGE era.

Now: Refuge is a place or state of safety.  In other words, the Veteran Refuge is a place for Veterans of Star Wars Galaxies to feel safe and unthreatened by current players.

Perhaps the best explanation for the board lies in the description:  A place for disgruntled former and current SWG players to talk about the game that was and the game that now is, as well as for newcomers who are curious about the issues surrounding the changes that this game has undergone. *Note, MMORPG.com RoC will still be enforced.

This is probably where much discrepancy comes from because it encourages old and new players alike to discuss the game.  It is most likely that this specific board was created to discuss the changes with a heavy emphasis on the good points of the pre-NGE era.  It should be clear that new players who enjoy the current state should be discussing the game in the General forum while old players should be discussing it here.

This is most likely why there are two different forums to discuss the game features because players were constantly arguing in the General forum since no other game actually has a forum designed specifically for Veterans and Current players.

The word "veteran" always seemed silly to me when regarding a game. Obviously most of us are seasoned in this game and are well aware of how to play it.  I certainly hold no ill-will towards a NGE player who may enjoy the game. My grievances are with $OE alone.

Sometimes I believe a game may unintentionally (or intentionally) divide a player base. We have seen a similar situation with UO when Trammel was introduced. Then suddenly people rallied to their particular flags and it became "Felluca Vs. Trammel" or... "PVPers Vs. Carebears."

Don't get me wrong, I feel a certain amount of plurality is needed in online games. Rivalries between factions etc. can greatly spice up a game. But to divide a player base over something as paltry as game design issues I find very hard to forgive.

Most likely most of us are Star Wars fans, and its sad this division ever occurred in this community were otherwise people may have got along wonderfully. We should be able to enjoy a quality game were we are crafting, killing each other, socializing or slaughtering the local wildlife. Instead, we are Star Wars fans who are bickering over the seed $OE planted. The fruits of that seed are evident today.  The fact $OE divided this game with such reckless abandon I find very hard to respect.
