Age of Conan is a lot of fun, at least on a PVP server which I can't imagine playing this game without it.  Levels 1-20 is clearly the most intuitive part of the game and it plays like a real single player game for Xbox or PS.  I find that is pretty amazing to be honest as it is jammed packed with loads of content.  I actually liked one of the NPC's in the newb area.  How ridiculous is that in an MMORPG?  He made me laugh.

The storyline throughout the game (ie. Levels 1-20, and your 30, 50, 70, 80 heritage quests) actually have pretty good story lines to be honest.  It is actually interesting and engaging for once compared to every other MMORPG I have played (except FFXI which I hear has a really good one) and it also has in game cutscenes that are cool to watch.

To make the most out of this game i firmly believe that you MUST be in a guild and be able to make friends.  Friends that you can group with and do quests together and go into dungeons to get epic items from.  Friends that will be there with you when another group is competing with you and trying to kill you so that they can steal your quest area.

Now, the best part.  When I engage in pvp with another person, I think it's an adrenaline rush.  It is that intense.  That's why i play games.  So i can get that rush and this rush is of killing another player and ruining their day.  Or when you just realized you owned somebody that was trying to gank you.  Or just when you think that you're whole group is going to be defeated, one of your buddies or YOU, that's right, YOU come through in the end and save the day in a victorious fight.  It's a great feeling.  Granted, I'm not one for ganking as there is no competition in that.  But there is so much going on in a pvp fight such as running around, nailing combos, shields, healing, pots, cover, target who? protect who?, etc..  Another suggestion is to buy an N52 GAME PAD.  Yes, this little device has made this game a wonder to play.  I can't imagine playing it on a keyboard anymore or on a 360 controller.  With that purchase, this game has gained a whole new level of gameplay for me.  I put movement (WASD) on the d-pad, strokes/swings on top row and abiltiies on the other rows and it's a champion.

I highly recommend a vent for this game.  I think it's damn near impossible to cooperate with other people in a pvp fight, raid, group, etc, if you don't have direct contact with them via a vent or TS server. I don't see how you can type in the middle of things when you have to be so engaged in combat.  You need to talk, not type.  This is another reason why you need a guild.  You also meet a lot of cool people that way I have noticed.  but you can never completely avoid the asshats.

The combat in this game is simply amazing to me.  I can't speak for caster classes, but as a melee class this game is fun as hell in combat.  It seems kind of silly in theory to add swinging motion combos to execute a special ability, but it is awesome and adds SKILL to the gameplay.  That's right, SKILL!  You need to have precision(which attk would be best to do now?), timing (don't screw up the combo!), agility (movement), and descent gear to pvp well among other aspects.  AOC did get one thing right that they promised on for damn sure and that is the fact that combat is "easy to pick up, difficult to master".  They aren't kidding.

Also, I enjoy taking part in actually building the guild city.  It is fun and interesting to see all the hardwork of players and yourself to raise a building in the city and I can not wait till our guild gets a city in the border kingdoms once it gains a little more functionality.

After you're 80, then the real game begins so everyone tells me.  I have hit level 80 2 weeks ago and now I'm investigating the harvesting branch to make some cash and get resources for the guild city and harvesting isn't so bad although i prefer combat (i'm not a crafter).  Mobs actually come and attack you while you're harvesting and they drop descent items as well.  The combat kind of breaks it up.  Other than that, I've been helping my members of the guild get up to 80 so once we get large enough we can engage in the 24 player Raid aspects which is supposed to be pretty fun so i hear and you get good class specific gear.  (Our guild is small right now so need to help other members before anything else first) Then, once they fix siege warfare and upgrade it a bit to get it where they want it which I think is the next big thing they are supposed to fix,  i think there will be a long list of content to go through for awhile with our guild.

I really feel like this game has a lot of potential right now.  I feel that the basics are down pat, they just need to fix some of  the end content and upgrade some things which they have said they will do.  The only thing that will be the bane of this game is something of the sort that SWG went through; where they changed everything that already existed because of people bitching all over the forums without giving the game a chance and then the devs will listen to them because the people that are enjoying the game don't have the time to get on the forums and argue with these people.

This game is definitely worth the purchase in my opinion.  For 50 bux I got a lot more hours out of it than a regular game and i enjoyed it throughly, even just lvl 1-80 is a rewarding experience in the least.

I encourage other players to leave their remarks here on why not to quit this game.  I feel that there is a lot of negativity surrounding this game on the forums and I believe that is only so because misery loves company and these forums are the perfect place for it.  So i say, shed a little light on this game at least, because it deserves some form of credit.

Nice write-up. I definitely agree on the ambushes making the gathering more bearable. I also seem to have an insane luck with the rare gathering, so my quests didn't take long. ;-)

Now I'm just extra sad I fried my graphics card though...

Dude AOC sucked. You wasted your time writing such a long post lol. They lost so many customers with such a bad buggy launch. Hell the end game is not even working which is what they talked so much about.  Find another mmo and dont praise a game thats not worth the hype it got.

I have played this game during beta and all the way up to about a week ago. The game was ok, but the fact that every zone is instanced kills it. Also, the fact that there is even the ability to 1 shot in pvp is rediculous, not to mention failcom's idea of class balancing is to nerf something to the point its unplayable, then when enough ppl cry about it, buff them so that they are overpowered.... The whole game is filled with bugs (I know, its still a new game) and the memory leaks are just rediculous. Vanguard (another bad game) runs 100x smoother with 10x better graphics... After leveling 2 chars to 80 there really is no end game

Life Liberty and the Pursuit of those that would threaten It

Why, because it was not what they said it was going to be. Ive been out of the game now for over a month going on what 2 now and just got an email saying they activated the buddy keys and go ahead and give them out. Any bets as to what this Thursdays patch will brake. Just come back here Thursday evening OP.

LOL!  About a week ago is when I cancelled my AoC account.  Then a few days afterwards, I too got the email from FC about the buddy keys.

Yeah, that's going to work...

I think the title should read:

Why NOT? quit this game !

but to answer some of your questions, no AoC still suck and the idea of vent is ....blah.....you ever try DDO ? Is sooo annoying to listen to kids screaming I got better armours and this game is sooo awesome or I got a lv 16 ranger and I will own you blah blah blah...

The combat system is ok, yup it takes skills to pvp. But the classes are so unbalance it really no point. Go ahead and try to do that combo while my ToS just stand here and cast. To PvE, the combat is just basically button smashing, I had more fun playing In PSU with timed attack with my gamepad.

It''s my job to be objective, it''s my right to have an opinion.

I just beg to differ on the game beginning at 80.

That was one of my biggest problems with Age of Conan; there just isn't ANYTHING to do when do cap out.

If you'd like an example of a game that just begins when you're at the end-game, that would be Final Fantasy 11. Between the base Rank missions, and all the expansion content that you need to be level 75 just to even attempt, I can't think of a game that offers more at the end to the players.

Age of Conan, on the other hand, has busted sieges, broken end-game raid zones, and highly-exploitable bosses.

While I'm glad you're enjoying the game thus far, just be wary. I enjoyed my trip to 80; it wasn't until I got there that I saw how lacking Age of Conan really is.
