Jesus Christ is Lord.

It gives an even more realistic feel of things. If Adventurine is trying to get the "real feel" going, this is a very good way to start. Give a compass, yes, but as far as those mini maps and overview maps, take em out. Allow us as players to pathfind ourselves by landmarks and such. This adds much much more to the exploration factor, and when we actually do run across a really sweet dungeon in the world, we would give other players directions instead of saying "it's there on the map."

I say this because DAoC was my first MMORPG, and at release, there was no such thing as a map. To this day I can still pathfind most of Hibernia in my head due to having to learn and memorize where everything was. It just makes it feel like a real place where you can describe where you've been with words instead of a map.

The same can apply to chatting... Take out any type of broadcasting or sending of tells, and put in mailboxes and delivery men/women. Allow shout to travel a certain radius, and that's it. =) Make it realistic, it's a lot more fun to have to work for what you want to accomplish. If you have an armor crafting store... Mail out ads and give directions to where your store is. Put up signs. Not only that, you won't know when the enemy will hit unless you send out scouts to track their pathing

I just think the further you get from what you see everywhere else, the better and more unique.

Hehe, just did a little edit. Had to throw in realistic communication too!

Hmmm, I was raised on DAoC too. Finding your own path was great, and a good leader always knew where to go. There were online maps, but you could only use it for reference, no dumb tracking dots.

BUT, I think the Darkfall world may be a bit too big for no maps at all, as much as I hate to admit it. I hear there is no "radar" I hope that means theres no tracking dot on the maps.

Reminds me of those who cried "We want it harder!" when Vanguard was in development.

We all seen how that worked for 'em.

Goozex.com Try it, you'll like it.

Don't have sigs with a cheerleaders butt swinging in it, or the prudes in the Age of Conan forum section of mmorpg.com will demand the mods have it removed.

I always thought it would be cool for them to add in-game maps you could buy that would be items on your character. Instead of opening a HUD map, you would pull it out and look at it. If you died, it would be looted with your corpse.

I like that idea.  You start with a blank continent map, some terrain features are filled in for you, the rest you have to fill in 'pin-style' like Horizons... and it can be looted.  Sounds like a blast  :)  :)

I agree 100%. I hope there are no tracking dots, but DFO's world is a bit too big to be without any form of map.

I think things like guild chat, party chat, private messages, should all be implemented. But the one thing I absolutely HATE in MMO's is "city chat". I'm really hoping there isn't a chat system set up in Darkfall that will allow people to spam and the entire city has to hear it. Annoys the piss out of me

No OOC chat or town chats would make Gold farmers and such ingame rather useless and nonexistant. And oh, would give more realism to the Rpers :)

I liked the configurable chat channels in games like Horizons.  Kept spam down...  and, you could still create alliance chat/builders chat/etc.
