You could get more general chat in EQ1 than on any WAR server I was on yesterday. People don't want to play together anymore I guess. |

Pinky! are you pondering what I'm pondering? |
Once communities have established and we get closer to lvl 40 content, you will notice more chat. Honestly, did you really expect a ton of talk in the teir 1 area during open beta? This is everyone's chance to try out the game. They want to get to sieging as fast as possible. |

You only live once... make it count! |
I didn't notice a lack of community, although I did notice the lack of general chat use. General chat in WAR is not global, it is mini-area based (similar to chat only appearing in "zones" in other games. Typically I found myself jumping into open parties and chatting with people there. Especially in a 24-person Warband, how many other people do you really need to chat with at once?

Interesting. For you community = chat. You might just have to wait until the actual release and the really big populations to get chat. I'll have to check back with you after release to see if things change. For myself, I always turn off general chat because all the "your mother" inanity spoils the suspension of disbelieve and immersion I am looking for in an MMORPG. For me community is my guild and what we can accomplish as a team. Most of our chatter is in Ventrilo.

Think the 'lack of community' is a mix of Sub zones of chat, think there is 3 per side in T1 (maybe 4, didn't notice if you moved into a new one once you moved from rvr into norsca) so you really don't see alot of 'general' chat just people asking for help when they get stumped on a quest. The other factor is that the game is still not released. Most people probably would rather level atm rahter then chat extensively.
Also warbands are popular in the game right from the start in T1 rvr, so alot of people just group up and talk there. |

This topic pops up in every MMO that is about to get released. The more popular the game, the more chances to find people that will annoy you. Beta free ride (aka no commitment) makes things much worse. |
