Seen alot of complaints on Darkfall poor graphics and animations. My guess is that many only seen the youtube version of the videos and its not the right way to make a judgement if you'd ask me.

Darkfall Developers have created many videos during the years, some really short, some longer. Im quite sure many havent seen some of the older ones. At least not in high quality.

Some of them give you a better view of how the graphics, shadings and the animations will be onscreen in higher settings.

Deathpig one (really short) is my favourite. Just look at this gameworld. Very short but also very beautiful. Look at the clouds, the moving grass and trees. Thats good graphics.

The sites and cities video is good too, and shows the character animation to be very good.

And more than anything: just look at the 2008 screenshots -- that's the *real* graphical quality of the game, not a highly compressed video.

The graphics/animation whiners are either trolls or hardcore fans of another game. That are nowhere near as bad as some people are making out, they could just use some tweaks here and there and some better effects for certain things.

I haven't read a single good criticism of DF graphics from a technical/analytical perspective, just lots of reactionary 'lolz bad' posts because everything else about DF is awesome-sauce.

John Romero is about to make you his bitch... Suck it down.

To my knowledge, the reason why the recently released video got so much flak was because Aventurine labeled it as a non-BS, unaltered look at what the actual engine can do (supposedly real in-game footage). I don't know about you guys, but that label certainly puts all of their previous media releases into serious doubt - not that it really matters, everyone knows that the footage and screenshots were all done up with post-processing effects and alterations to improve quality (Photoshop FTW). I'm by no means a stickler for graphics - I can pretty much say with 100% certainty that the graphics I've seen thus far (from the latest video release) will not adversely affect the gameplay, that is the most important thing to me as a gamer.

I just get really tired of all the little kiddies who feel the need to draw comparisons between different games and their corresponding graphical art schemes. It's preposterous to claim that Warhammer Online graphics are better than Darkfall graphics, or even vice-versa - for example. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've seen thread topics like "lolz WAR grafix sux" or "Darkfall animations r teh lame - epic fail." All of these conclusions are primarily drawn through comparisons made against other games out on the market.

I also get very tired of the gameplay vs. graphics debate that seems to spark up unrelentingly around these parts. I hope that someone out there understands that gameplay does in fact = graphics. Gameplay is getting that satisfaction of heaving a broadsword's edge right upside your opponent's head and rolling for some god-awesome damage - graphics multiplies this satisfaction by letting you see that broadsword go smashing into an actual head. Neither game aspect should be substituted for the apparent lack of its counterpart (like ying and yang). If a game has graphics that ultimately reduce the multiplier I talked about just a few lines up, then saying "Oh well, it has good gameplay" is no excuse for what that game lacks in its visual department. The same thing applies to the other side of things - if a game has piss poor gameplay, then saying "Oh well, the eye candy is great" is no excuse for that lack of gameplay. Of course, gameplay should be the most important aspect of an MMO, but you can't rule out visuals, either - that's why you're playing an MMO and not a MUD, after all.

Ah, hell. What am I talking about? Let the fanboyisms and game bashing-isms resume!

By the way, what's the deal with the stiff/awkward animations in the second video? They seem kind of at odds with the more fluid presentation in the first video, but I'm guessing that's because the guy is going slower in the first video.

It's obvious to anyone with a photographic background that Aventurine don't post-process their videos, the brightness and contrast are off in several scenes of the latest video.

First one won't even play for me.

In any event, if the animations are so great, why would they release a video with animations that are so horrid?

What do you mean? Screenshots can be doctored just like anything else.
