Guild Wars

  I prefer to use the old standby, the warrior although I know that certain Paragon and Dervish builds do it well too. I've heard of others using Earth Elementalists with great results too. What is your class preference for a PVE tank?

Real tanks are only needed in the really hard forms of PvP such as Domain of Anguish. Outside of that a warrior's natural armor will be sufficient for tanking. The best versions I know of are: Ele, Warr and Derv primary.

Thank you nackster!!! I overlooked this build before but I'm sorry I did. I am going to try this out. I too have been running a whammo (and loved several different builds that I've had with it) but I will definitely try out the Obsidian Tank.

 Warriors and Elementalists are excellent at tanking when done correctly.

one of the best tanks i plaed with in domain of anguish was a ranger.

i think for tank position really any profession can do it , its a position that as at least 3 to 4 other players giving suport , 2 or 3 monks and the bip necro , or paragon chants. in a solid team build , the primary profession of one possition is not that important , the over all combo is what matters.

  That's a very good point. Having multiple healers focused on you could turn just about anyone into a tank. A good team can, and should, make up for any individual shortcomings. Very true

That build is very energy dependant. In an area with a lot of enchantment removal, its useless.

To the OP:

Adapt your tank (and support/utility skills) to the environment you play in to make your monk more efficient. Makes it a lot easier for the whole team.

Bring an Imbagon and give your whole team an additional 100 armor. And Obsidian Flesh makes you immune to spells so there are very few areas in where your enchantments will be removed. A more offensively aimed tank would be this one which relies on blocking stances and knockdowns to keep the stances up constantly. In general though an Imbagon and one healer and one additional support character with some additional healing will be sufficient to roll through most areas in the game except the absolutely hardest ones, and EotN.
