Actually that is extremely high.

The problem is that people are still comparing it to WoW. Stop that.

WoW is not popular because of gamers. WoW is popular because of non-gamers and non-mmo players.

Take WoW out of the equation and then point to a western mmo that can boast those numbers.

Too easy.
I know a lot of Wow players in my circle of trust :))), that are very much videogame players. There's simple a lot of people playing Wow from all kinds of origins. Be it TT, board games, nintendo gaming, PS2, you name it and they are all in there.
I am preparing a piece why Wow is so popular and why all "Wow-killers" didn't make it. I'll wait a month to publish it, because there is simply no use of reasoning now with the War believers (just like there was no reasoning with the AoC believers 3 months ago).

But let's say its popularity is based on 2 things: "Elvis Presley was King of Rock 'n Roll and although he himself was a copy, every copy of Elvis was a failure or a one song hit". You can't copy the original and for 10.000.000 people (or more) Elvis or Wow is the original.
Second thing is simple: WoW isn't an MMORPG. It far exceeds the other MMORPG's in a LOT of aspects. It is so different, even the old - very old - MMORPG players haven't seen it. It is quite obvious though, but let's say it has NOTHING to do with gaming.

As for WAR: it's a one song CD artist.
The song is written in C-minor and consists of 1 choir: War.
As good as a song in C-minor may be felt in the beginning, it is but one song.
And just like every one song artist, it will make the charts for 2 months top, but the album isn't there.

Most people will have the one song CD in their collection but after a few weeks it will hardly be played by most.
And certainly not if you have to pay each time you play it.

I've barley had time to check mmorpg.com recently and there's been dozens and dozens of posts like this claiming WAR will dethrone wow, well guess what, those posts have got to be coming from somewhere, WAR is no aoc, it's no failure, if you've played it up to at least lvl 10 you'd know that.

WAR owns.... DWARFs own....

Status of servers in EU today (13:05): One high faction - 8 medium and 40+  low population.

We'll see in 8 weeks time...

They've been slowly increasing server caps for some time in order to prepare for launch. That's why they've been overpoped at the beginning and now they are all low-to-medium outside the rush hour afternoons and evenings.

I wouldn't be surprised if their intention with this was to have a nice spread of tested low pop servers at launch, rather than plugging in new ones that would fill up and crash like firecrackers. That's just a very well thought out MMO release strategy.

And besides, I find myself playing WAR less than I did WoW (though it's maybe too early to tell) even though I believe it a much superior and enjoyable game. And why is that? Because I'm having so much fun that I feel overloaded after 2 hours and want to take a break, feeling satisfied. In WoW I'd spend HOURS on end just timesinking so I could maybe, eventually, accomplish something meaningful later on. Herbalism in Terokar ftw.

I share the exact sentiment.  War isn't as addictive as Wow, but it sure is a heck of a lot more fun.  Addiction doesn't equate to quality gaming, but I guess it's that hollow feeling playing Wow that keeps people coming back.

Whether or not War will dethrone Wow is a mute point imho.  The market needs strong competitors if we're to expect better games in the future.  Monopolies are always bad, and I'm rooting for the new kid at this point.

Overloaded after a week of WAR already?

It proved exactly my point. This could be the shortest played out MMO in history. We'll see in 3 months time.

BTW define hollow feeling in Wow. Never had more fun in social gaming as in these last 3 years.

I have good news, and some bad news!

Good news, More then half of WoW subscribers aren't actually players, but bots, gold sellers, farmers, or inactive accounts. Which means most of the people have left WoW, but not for WAR.

Bad news WoW will always exist because it sucks. WAR can be a better game but WoW has a bunch of people who won't leave WoW for crap, litterally, the games crap! Why subscribers won't leave? because more then half, like i said earlier, aren't actual players. So the game will be full of crap tastic gold sellers and farmers and thats enough to keep WoW going. Anyways the people in WoW can stay in WoW were they can use every varient of *fag* and *gay* as much as they wanit. Stop being a worry wort over WoW's subscribers cause its all bs.

LOTRO is a great game.

WoW is better than LOTRO, the subs prove it.

WAR will be less successful than LOTRO.

The only thing WAR has going for it is the realm versus realm feature.  If that doesn't pan out, WAR will wither away.
