Was in a group today (open party), doing an early Tier 2 PQ. The item that is up for loot roll is a "Damaged Weapon". Since I am a Bright Wizard (who is also a salvager), the item that appears below it is a certain "staff weapon" for Bright Wizard. I think "Cool", I haven't seen this yet, it's showing me a staff which I can use, So I "NEED" it on the roll. Player X "NEED"s it Player Y "NEED"s it Nobody else in group takes action. I win the roll (my 68 to X's 62 and Y's 40-something) and the "Damaged Weapon" comes to me. Almost immediately, Player "X" starts shouting at me and calling me names (which I won't repeat here) saying WTF, why did you NEED when you COULDN'T use it? He yells "It was a sword for my class, you can't use it!" I say HUH? It showed me a staff I could use. Did it show him something he could use too? Does this particular item turn into something that either of us can use even though we are completely different classes/races? Player Z starts shouting that I better give it to Player X or I am "black listed" Whatever the F$#% that means, and jumps on the bandwagon. I give in and surrender the "Damged Weapon" to Player X because I'm not a confrontational type player - after all it is just a game. However, all 3 of us "NEEDED" it and I won fair and square. What is the general consensus - do you "NEED" on damaged items that YOU can use? And is it really a fair item to have us roll on if all of us see it as something different? Kind of sounds like a stalemate to me. Please explain this "damaged item" mechanic to me, it's role in group play with NEED/GREED, and does it make a difference or matter that I picked Salvager as a craft career? Is that why I see it as an item I can use? Or does it have anything to do with Salvager? I see the word "Damaged" and think "Salvager". Thanks! |

Actually I experienced something similar today. I saw a damaged Ironbreaker belt that I wanted and chose NEED. A runepriest however also rolled NEED. Later I learned that he saw a damaged runepriest belt. So apparently with the damaged equipment, your class sees always your own class in it. |

Every class will see an item they can use. So in other words, everybody will probably roll for it and is fine. Dont feel bad :) |

Quick and easy, and sorry for your experience. A damaged item can be repaired into an item that your class can use. Thus you see a staff, another person sees a bow, someone else sees an axe. It is common to NEED any item that is an upgrade for you, and you were well in your right to keep the item. It is a different mechanic than other games, and often all you need to do is explain how the damaged item works. Often if you just ask EVERYONE to say what they saw, everyone will quickly see that the same item means different things to everyone in the group (have even those that hit greed say what they saw). Even though you were attacked, being the bigger person usually lets them accept their mistake and move on. If not, then they are not the type of people you want to play with. |

The Damaged weapon bit...those items show up as whatever you yourself can use. Thus, they can apply to both sword users and staff users...that being said, the people who did that to you were total jerks. If they play on Dark Crag, put their names here so I know never to deal with them>> And sorry, you got cheated out of an item. |

Blessed are the forgetful, for they get the better even of their blunders |
Yeah, as people above me have said, the damaged items that drop show as different things to different people. As a note though, not all of them can be repaired into something every class can use. If the item won't repair into something that your class can use, then there won't be a repaired item shown in the tooltip, but if it can be repaired into something your class can use, the repaired item will show in the tooltip. it seems not everyone is aware of this as I've had a few people yell about it as well. Sorry you gave in to the jerk though before you found out about this. One upside though is that, in most cases, the repaired items, and most green (uncommon) items in general are really pretty cheap when sold on the AH. |

Hi everyone, Thank you for the replies. Thanks for sharing your experiences and explainations. You know I thought I had made an error in game ettiquite and felt bad about it - until I understand what happened. You know the more I think about what happened, the more mad I get :( Oh well, what can ya do? I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else or if it does, they read this thread and understand what happened. |
