Acclaim, the North American Publisher for The Chronicles of Spellborn, has announced that the game will launch on November 27. In lieu of the typical 7 of 14 day free trials, TCoS will include a free to play starter zone where players can get a feel for the game's systems before making an investment in the game.

Acclaim Games announced the official launch date for the North American version of The Chronicles of Spellborn which is scheduled for release on November 27, 2008. The North American version of Spellborn will be commercialized as a free-to-play game with an optional premium service to access further content and gameplay.

As with all of Acclaim’s games, Spellborn will be free to download and play once players have registered for an account. But those players who want to access advanced features and unlock extra game content will have the option to purchase a premium service that will offer several payment options.

I want nothing to do with acclaim that this is good for the game. The publisher is scary and I now know that I will be looking for a copy of it from overseas and play there. I have been waiting since '05 for this game and the publisher for NA seems the wrong one.

Gamers who use RMT are like athletes who use steroids.

I lost interest in this game when the developers flipflopped and decided to go with "lots of instancing", but I don't understand the negativity towards the permanent free trial design. It makes a lot more sense marketing wise than offering buddy passes or free trials later on. Every MMOG should do this from the start. As long as the developers are smart enough to disable chat, and the sending of tell abilities on these free accounts, I don't see the problem. I hope they didn't overlook that obvious necessity.

Well I believe they have decided to get in bed with the item shop industry.  From what I have been reading, they hope you will spend a lot more than the normal monthly subscription fee to play this game.

I personally don't think much of Acclaim either and that is a major strike against this game.

What item shop? It's a flat subscription based MMOG. The free trial accounts are just designed so players can try the game before they buy it. There is no item shop.

^^^Where did you get THAT idea?  That's not at ALL what I've read.  Do you have something you can link for us that gave you that impression?

THE ABOVE POST IS MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION. Duh.
Now Playing: WoW, EQ2, EVE. Presently in closed beta for two upcoming MMOs, really looking forward to The Agency, Runes of Magic, Aion and TCoS releases. Still debating a return to Vanguard. I also play FPS games, such as Unreal 3 and Painkiller, and some single player games like Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. I'm addicted.

... You should inform yourself and read the TCOS website before saying stupid things like this... because it will not have an item mall or such thing..
