Again neon, excellent points and I agree with your points on the Vanguard models. I think that is a holdover from the original release that they addressed slowly. I believe the philosphy was 'fix bugs and stability first, visuals second'. Looking at the recent character changes, while they are a slight improvement they have room to fix them even more, which I am happy about.

About whammer, i probably should roll a Destro character, but I have only rolled Order. I usually like the "good" side in a MMO and usually take that side first before switching around. I have been disappointed in the choices thus far on that side so thats why I havent been jazzed about warhammer. The usual response is "just roll a Destruction guy". Well, I dont think it should be either/or. The game punishes you if you want to play both. You have to roll a guy on a completely different server from scratch.

Warhammer is doing quite well now mainly due to its the most recent MMO release. Any new MMO will grab attention, especially when the past releases of others has been bad over time. AoC is a prime example.. Great out the gate but long term?? Who knows. I do think that because War is such a easy game to play it is fun now. But that ease is what will doom it. There is no depth in the game. Especially when in my opinion, Guildwars does PvP a whole lot better than this does, and thats free to play.

After this intial rush, I do believe people will fall off to play more traditional pvp. War wont keep all the WoW pvpers cause of the WotLK coming out soon. With WoW there is always the CHOICE to do pvp OR pve endgame. With Warhammer, I dont think there is no PvE endgame choice... just as you level up and that part is flat so far. So without steller endgame RvR play, I dont know why long term why people other than lore buffs would stay. Right now that RvR type play isnt gamebreaking.

But I must ask since you seem to know about Warhammer and maybe some of its lore: Are the novels/books set in a 19th Century world, like Pirates of the Burning Sea or something? Thats the un "modern" feel I was referring to that I get visually.

BTW: I must commend you on your excellent opinions on Vanguard. Nice to hear mature opinions without personal attacks.   :)

Yeah the unfortunate thing about Vanguard is that it was badly designed from the beginning. SOE have done a good job with it but they can only do so much with it. I think the reason why people like it is because its the only game that offers that level of freedom at the moment. Its just a shame that it hasnt been made to a higher standard. I think much better PvE games will come out in teh future that give just as much if not more freedom than Vanguard does. In fact I think its inevitable.

I normally choose the good side in games too actually as I find the idea of being evil just doesnt sit with me well. I always equate evil to being imature and silly. However in Warhammer its not so clear cut as the "good guys" arent sluffy and nice themselves. I usually play Dwarves in fantasy games if I have the opportunity but once I saw the little gobbos I just couldnt resist them.

I wouldnt really say the game punishes you for choosing to switch sides. What they have done does actually make sense......otherwise you could just switch sides if you find yourself on the losing side in the "grand war" which would defeat any sense of attachment to your realm. Entire armies would vanish from one side and suddenly appear on the other side which wouldnr be right. Ok so you would have to roll a new character on a different server if you want to play for teh other side......is that really such a bad thing?

I totally agree with you about Warhammer being too easy and lacking in depth. The crafting system is a bit of a joke with only two professions (cultivating or talisman making) and it leaves very little room for real exploration in my opinion. You just follow a linear path along with everyone else. Lasting appeal? Hmmm......not sure. I think you're right....quite a few people probably wont stick with the game. For me personally I'm not too bothered about end game content because as with any game I get bored after a certain amount of time anyway and move onto something else. Once I have played the game through to the end and experienced what is at the end then why would I want to hang around there? Its the end afterall. All of these mmos are designed like single player games and like those games once I have completed them then I stop playing it and move onto something else. I have never understood how people can keep playing one game for several years. These mmos are not "worlds" like people keep referring to them as.

I dont actually know a huge amount about Warhammer but I did used to play the tabletop game many years ago when I was a kid and I have also read a number of the novels. I believe the game is set in the 17th century which is why you have witch hunters, devout ranting warlike priests and flintlock pistols. Imagine the horrors of our own world back then when religion dominated the land with an iron fist but instead of the demons and monsters being fabricated by religion it is instead actually real in the form of Chaos. Chuck in a load of fantasy monsters like Orcs & dragons and such forth and you have the gritty world of Warhammer.

I must also commend you on your well spoken points. Its actually good to be able to speak honestly about Vanguard without getting childish drivel such as "go back to WoW" getting lobbed my way. I'm being well behaved today though because sometimes I have a bad tendency to transform into an angry raging gobbo and let forth a torrent of waaaggghhh magic.

True, got caught up in the moment. Apologies

Warhammer Forum poster: "So if most sieges you have seen haven't exceeded the cap and they are crashing then wtf is the point of this fix?"

I only played my Bear Shaman to lvl 31. In all my years as a gamer, the Bear Shaman is without a doubt my favorite class.I loved the graphics. I loved the performance. I loved the European feel of the game like the Gothic series. I loved the combat, the quests everything else. The only issue I had was the 4k lag spikes. Are these still around?

I really liked this game.
Then people started leaving, so I did too.

I watched Funcom stocks and wanted them to fail. Why? Why would I want this?

Now I am playing Warhammer. I have left WoW in the dust. Tried Ryzom for a week and enjoyed it, but after a while I logged on and said, "what next"? Warhammer is an amazing game with some brutal performance issues that unless fixed, I will not re-subscribe.

So why did I leave AoC? Was it a wrong decision? Was I a lemming? I mean, if you are enjoying something, who cares what people think? This new patch looks amazing..

Should I think about coming back?

To fix your performance issues :

*  Uninstall the Beta game, if you are still running from that
*  Install the Retail CD versions
*  Use your Graphics Card tools to OVERRIDE applications AA and AF
*  Force Vertical Sync OFF
*  Start WAR, setup WAR to use High Performance Graphics
*  Exit WAR
*  Start WAR and confirm operations without Lag or Hitching
*  Exit WAR
*  Now, turn on AA and AF to 2x or 4X (more is not needed) with Graphics Card Tools
*  Start WAR, verify operations are still smooth
*  Set (ONLY) the view distance to MAX
*  Exit WAR
*  Start WAR, verify operations are still smooth

You should now have pretty good graphics, and no Lag or Hitching.
You may also start turning up WAR graphic items, One-By-One.
Be sure to restart WAR after each change, and test before making another change.

I went from unplayable Lag and Hitching to ZERO lag and hitching (1920x1200 Widescreen).  It is even smooth in the Capital Cities.

Good Hunting

I guess if you do what everyone else does, then NO, as most of us are not going back.  Now if you are someone that wants to think for yourself, then put some cash down on a gamecard when the 3.0 patch goes in, that does look very promising, however it wont resolve the issues I had with the game.

Some people are like slinkies, they dont really have a purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Play what you want. As long as you are having fun in the way you want to have fun you should stay.

Remember, not everyone is going to like AOC.

Heck, I played Lineage 2 for almost 5 years, not the #1 subscribed to mmo in the west and I loved it despite what others felt about it.
