I read a lot about this game a LONG time ago, so spare me your condescension while I attempt to make my question make sense.  I am curious if anyone has a good understanding of the system they have in place regarding reputation.  I remember reading that you can kill anyone but that their are repurcussions based off some kind of reputation system.   As I am very interested in this game, and since I first read about this game, i have wondered about whether it would be possible to pull off being an assassin in this game.  Something along the lines of this scenario.  Another merchant is cutting into your sales, and you see he has some new (anything really) and you want to send him a message.  You hire me, i stalk him through town use that cool stealth system i read about (and hopefully its in game) take him out, full loot him and bring back whatever trophy it was as proof of the deed.  Seems like a lot of fun something that would be great to RP but I was wondering if there are ways to improve your reputation as well.  So that even though i would occassionally kill someone of my own faction I am not also immediately forced out of the town like the people that just randomly kill anyone and loot.  Just curious.

The way alignment system in DF works basicly is if you kill your own race or a friendly race unpravoked you get a alignment hit , if you do this enough ( not sure how much it takes )  you will become KoS (kill on sight) with your race as well as other friendly races . If you attack first or "murder'  him you will have to face up to it , but of course there are a lot of other things as well that change  it , like if your at war with that persons clan etc etc  etc. Once you have a negative faction or alignment rating with your own people you can get back in  their good graces but its not easy they say.

Im sure you knew all that , but Ya i could see things like that  playing out a lot , but im not surehow hard the alignment system will be  so not sure how much you could do this without eventualy having to find a new place to  call "home' . Tho i could see "evil" aligned people taking on jobs such as this , people who dont care for the racial alignment and already chose to live in an "outlaw' town or way of lifeif you will , if you think you could trust them .

Also not sure about what cool stealth system you mean , stealth as i read is no more than , not wearing shinny gear / stick to the shadows / move slow and silent etc etc , but there is no real "stealth" mode and no "invisible' stealth like in other games .

As far as i understand it, you can kill opossed races without penalty. In a clan war you won't get penaltys. For attacking you're race u will get bad alignment and you will be flagged 'grey' so everybody attacking you won't get bad alignment or penalty's.

Oh and i ye, there isn't 'stealth' u need to hide like sayd above but( not completely sure) i think there will be skill to improve on this ( like harder to spot etc...)

will probably be something like, if you kill 5 racial enemies, that will make up for 1 kill of a racial ally. So shouldnt be a problem to occasionally kill an ally.

Not sure on that , they said it will not be easy at all to get back in "good alignment' with your race , so i would think more like 50-100 racial enemy kills to 1 friendly kill . assuming this is how it works .5-10 or even 20 or 30 would be only a bump in the road , for it to be "very hard" id assume 100/1 , depening on how manyy friendly kills ittakes to get cast out . If it were 5 kills till your kos then 250-500 would make you non kos , id assume its more like 20 or so before your are KoS , so say at maybe a 10/1 ratio  would make it 200 kills before your none kos . i would think something close to that to make it hard , or possible some quest line also .

Isn't it +100 and -100 alignment? Assuming u go -1 for every allies u kill, say u are at -50. That would be 50000 to kill. Seems like a lot :P.

Aye, and on a scale like that  i would say break that 50,000 down to a 500 and it would be perfectly  fitting .

Sounds good, but i guess we will have to wait for the game to release and see how it really works.

First off... thanks for the info.  Secondly, the stealth system was exactly what you mentioned.  That you actually had to hide in shadows and wear non shiny clothes etc. to sneak from place to place.  Lastly, it was all just curiousity, if/when this game comes out (and i truly can't wait to try it) I would make several characters but i just think playing a character completely focused on assassination - not robbery but paid for assassinations would be a blast if you were entrepreneurial enough to make it work.
