Goonies Never Say Die!

Is it true that the Ranger class is going to receive the ability to place a campfire/campsite in GU7? I recall one of the devs saying that they were going to add player-placed campfires and have also heard a few things lately about a "basic campsite" for Rangers already working and coming in the nexp publish. Can anyone confirm this for us role players?

Heard the same rumour, not sure from where but definately from a dev in SOE.

The intention is to give Rangers camps, whether thats SWG style camps (which are major cool) or something else, you're guess is as good as mine.

Quite excited about it.

Don''t Panic!!!!

I believe it was in one of the podcast last summer (beauturkey posted it) with the lead dev. He briefly mentioned it along with a bunch of other things. There was no mention of any class restriction for it and no timeframe that I can recall.

I wanna say fishing, some area revamps and new content were the focus now that the customization stuff is done from what he outlined.

There are three things in the works for Rangers.

1. Campfires

2. Ranger pets

3. Ranger styles implementation: melee or ranged.

If its not GU7 then GU8.

Cool. I do know for a fact that a dev said that "basic ranger camps" were already working but that they were not finished with some other aspect(s) of the Ranger revamp.

In fact, here is a thread where a dev posted in about it: Who Wants Player Placed Campsites & Campfires ?

I also remember the podcast with Beau awhile back where a dev stated that campsite/fires were indeed coming.

It would be nice if the devs would publish some information about it. Since they already say it's "working" (the 'basic camps') why not give us some info about them. Like maybe a screenshot.

I also like how they are going to be a scout/ranger ability. What makes Vanguard one of the only true MMORPG's left these days is the fact that they have not forgotten the RPG part  MMORPG.

Anyway....

Ranger changes are now on the test server.

Here is a post from the Test Server forums....

Played with both pets and campfire tonight.

Campfire:

1) Graphic for campfire is huge (approx 20' in diameter). Need to reduce to 20% - 25% of current size. At current size it will interfere with corpses, targeting tombstones, using necro meat, etc.

2) With the campfire is basically acting as shareable food with the accelerated hp regen, power regen, and sitting requirements. Removes the need for foraged food for the ranger, which is fine if you plan to replace the food forages with added arrow componentts. Changes to foraged loot table would also affect druids if I am not mistaken.

3) Duration of the camp fire is approximately 30 seconds and requires other players to right click on the campfire to trigger the 'food' effect. Similar to necro meat this is a problem in raiding situations in as much as obtaining line of sight with other players inadvertently blocking access.

4) The campfire regen icon does not state the effects of the benefit. It also takes up a spot on the beneficial buff bar, which is already overcrowded and usually off the screen on most raids.

5) Suggetions for changes: a) Reduce the regen rate on both the hp and power components to continue to allow the need for food. b) Change the interaction of the campfire to that functionality of a permanently rooted, short duration bard pet with about a 5 to 7 foot song radius. Song impact can be either AE affecting all in radius (preferrable) or group restricted. c) Buff icon for the campfire icon would show up in the bard song window freeing up space to see other buff icons. Using this approach would allow for flexibility in building additional types of campfires (i.e. defensive perimeter - increased short term mitigation, High Ground - increased short term offensive benefit, etc, etc, etc)

Pet:

Coded as a minion as previous when it was a short term pet. Pet is now essentially always up with a 1hr timer with a 1.5 second cast time and a 30 second reuse timer. Pet is controlled using the limited minion control panel (also via the /minion <command> for integrating into macros). Si
