MMORPG Character Monuments

...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest...

I frequent a lot of boards for a lot of games. I thought most players would as well.

Why is it that on some forums have more "I hate this/I hate that/ Nerf this/Change that" posts yet on other sites things remain relativlely helpful and upbeat.

Do the players  only post their thoughts on one forum and not go to others, or do the surrounding posts influence our threads towards pro/con?

Thoughts?

It's deffinitly the people who visit the forums. Since this site is so 'ALL MMO's' and posts most recent topics on the main page we get alot of people from other games posting in games they dont' like because it's so quick and easy to access.

at least thats my PoV

Yeah this whole site seems to be a breeding ground for people to go and "convince" others that the game they are interested in is total crap or a copy of another game.  Constructive opinions are one thing, but for the most part they are just one-liners of matter-of-fact views, no examples etc.

I come here
because I care.

It is partly the people that visit it, but I think it's largely the moderation practices as well. Some forums come down hard on negative comments, others let them go, and there are varying degrees in between. The attitude of the forum threads influence the attitudes of the posters, who are of course making the threads, so once the forum as a whole has developed a general "feel" across the board, the posters tend to take that into consideration when making threads/posts.

A cleaner board makes for cleaner threads and posts all around. At least, this is what I've seen in my experience. The same goes for chats, both public and private, including in-game chats and guild chats as well.

EDIT: The phrase "lowest common denominator" comes to mind.

This board is second only to VN-DT boards.

It's easy to access, people who play WoW can easily find this board, and post their thoughts on WAR, No Problem.  I also find that the MODs are PRO WoW so that the majority of people who bash this game and use WoW as a cover are often not bothered, however, if you post pro-WAR on the WoW forums, you are beat with a stick.

The WARalliance boards are much better because they aren't really open (you don't see other games being offered.)

Well, can't say I'm surprised the tone of the posts (left there) is positive ;)

I would say it's a mix of both players and forum readers/posters.

Censorship is working pretty well for China, why not have it in the rest of the world? =D
