to go a little furthur...

maybe 2 race choices, indian or american

sandbox style freedom, with player cities

shadowbane city like economy, and full raiding (suited to the style of the old west/oregon trail times)

seriously...if you think about it...it would be pretty sweet :P

Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.

Sure why not, it would be different.

while your idea of it seems to be just cookie cutting another MMO into that setting, a true Oregon Trail sandbox MMO would be loads of fun.... i'm sorry, COULD be loads of fun, a setting doesn't make a game, just gives it potential.

Wow, oregon trail, you went farrrrrrr back. Remember playing that in school when computers were pretty new to the midwest regular joes. I could see an oregon trail type working. Some of the simplest things are fun. I do wonder if less work was put into graphics and more into content, what kind of amazing things would we have.

One of the funnest games I ever played I swear was turn-based ghengis khan on a nintendo. You never saw 4 roomates so excited to get home from work just to take their turn trading and warring each other. It wasn't fancy graphics but the play was strong enough to engage us all.

wow, found a link

i dunno, killin squirrels for 3lbs of meat and then having everyone get cholera was cool on the green screen comps, but i put those games to rest along with number munchers...

say....

how about a number munchers mmo?

meh, they both would be wow clones somehow and all would have buggy and failed launches.

i like the hack'n'slash anyway

How many shots from a .44 should it take to kill a player assuming that gunfighting is in the game?

Functionless Art is Simply Tolerated Vandalism...

People probably wouldn't like it because if one of your characters died they probably wouldn't respawn.
