I think Lucas lost his edge awhile ago. I still like the 1st 3 Star Wars movies. I have not even seen the last 2 even though I bought them when they were released on DVD. I really didn't care for Episode 1.

EP2 was decent (at least the fight scenes) and EP3 was very good (I rate it ahead of ROTJ).

But, yeah, Lucas has long lost it due to his ego and micromanagement.  Back in the days of the Trilogy, he wrote the storyline, had others write the screenplays, and he hired competent directors and took more of a producer role.  He didn't do this with the prequels, and it showed.

My order of Star Wars films from favorite to least favorite:

EP5 "Empire Strikes Back"
EP4 "Star Wars"
EP3 "Revenge of the Sith"
EP6 "Return of the Jedi"
EP2 "Attack of the Clones"  (fight scene and Natalie Portman in a catsuit with a bare midriff saved it for me)

EP1 "Phantom Menace"  Only good part was the Darth Maul fight.  When I watch the movies I typically start there then go immediately to EP2 :)

That's my rating of the films as well.

Lucas really did lose it around the time of Ep VI.  The Ewoks were so obviously product placement.

BTW, I'd disagree with you about Ep I, my favorite scene is where Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan liberate the Queen and her entourage, mainly because it shows Jedi effortlessly kicking droid ass with style.

You guys see the latest South Park episode? They let George Lucas have it for the last Indiana Jones movie lol. Funny stuff.
