I had a pretty embarrassing moment yesterday and I feel compelled to let the world know about it.  Not because I am proud of my Noobness instead I feel obliged to speak up for an MMO, AoC on this occasion for doing something right.  MMO companies take a pretty big bashing and even though its mostly deserved there are times when they do something right....like on this occasion.

Situation:

Yesterday I was having fun with a PvP mini game and upon finishing I realised my combos didnt work.  So I did the usual.  Curse at Funcom, ask in global if anyone had this issue and generally feel sorry for myself.  I petitioned and literally 1 min later a GM contacted me and we started to run through my issues.  (Nice to see him appear as well in all his 12 foot glory) 1 hour later we had gone through everything and still no help. He waited for me to reboot, delete folders and the rest.  I had to run but he told me to petition in the morning.  

Next morning at 7.30am I thought I would try and once again almost instantly a GM contacted me.  Spent another hour going through everything and still no success until.....he asked me where my combo arrows were placed and if I had accidentally moved one....I realised in my PvP combat I had dragged one out of place.  I was so embarrassed I literally turned red.  2 hours of GM's time and after all else failed they asked the NOOB question and I seriously felt like a twat!  

Just wanted to do a shout out for the 2 GMs who helped me.  I didnt expect instant responses and I cant believe how polite and friendly they were even when they realised I had wasted 2 hours of their time.  I half expected when I logged on next I would see my character walking around with a NOOB sign around his neck!

So yes...I am officially NOOB of the week and I have no skills.....

LOL it's easily done isn't it - I sometimes accidentally swivel my side bars off the edge of the screen  - has much the same effect.

I've seen an option in the interface settings that allows you to lock the bars in place, but I haven't used it yet.

That reminds me.  The GM politely pointed out that 'Shift - L' locks the combat bar, he suggested I use it! rofl, yup and my brain for that matter.

Well I've done similar mistakes myself, don't remember if in AoC, but in other MMO's for sure

Basically just turning everything around multiple times to find out whats wrong, blaming everyone else, then to find out a day or 2 later that it was my own very simple mistake, something ridiculously simple.

Happens in real life too.

Had a friend of mine experience something like this a few weeks ago, computer related problem, when I showed him the simple solution he just fell flat out on the couch.

Yep had this happen a lot while playing, I always felt they should have a lock mechanism in place to avoid this issue, I didn't know there was one. I take it you play with your mouse as well ?

Nice Story. That Shift-L is a very usefull function in fact.

You can also accidentally hide all your combos if while sprinting you decide to also swing at an enemy. Shift + 1, 2, 3, etc brings up your alternative skill bars across the bottom of the screen.

I had to run away fast before firuring this one out LOL

Actually FC has put a lot of really smart functionality in place on your keyboard. Just have a look in the control setup and you'll be surprised.
