Banning me, only makes me stronger.

I don't mind indepth games, however eve really sounds like a shark in the bathtub.

Is it true that people just wait around to kill anyone they see?

I hear Newb players are mostly ignored because people think they are spys. Also they are killed just for fun because the vet players are bored.

I like to explore and do otherthings I don't want to play a game where I have to watch my back every second. Or get ganked every few minutes.

there are sl (sercurity levels) on the "zones" so as long as you in .5 and above your coolz, .7 an above your super cools.

And there are pleanty of these, you may want to venture out at some point, but for the most part it no biggy, (nor is losing a ship, they are easy to come by it only gte painful when you start geting faction or t2 ships and equip then losing it is sad.)

So I'll try to stay in .5 - .7 is it? I read someone say it took 4 trials to finally understand a bit of the game....thats like 2 months. I think that sounds more like the stockholm syndrome where over time you build a loyalty to your hostage taker. Is there any 'build' or point system I need to watch out for?

In some games you can ruin yourself at the early stages in your build, skill tree.

Just don't try to minmax your attributes during char creation.
Another important point: Think of a name that you feel good with. Chances are "l33t d0mJneat0r" won't be the nick you want to use in the next years. Usually people won't change their characters later in the game..

Other than that, feel free to fly around. Keep away from low security space (warning popup will warn you when you try to jump there), and don't steal from people (warning popup will warn you).

Btw., if a can is labeled "free to take", you can bet it's a trap.
Paranoia is a good skill in eve, train it to maximum.

As a final word..play around a bit. Don't worry about stuff.
Just make sure you never fly what you can't afford to lose.

"In EVE, no one gives a damn about a fair fight." - chafin

I'd hate to see you become a victim of the many things you mention in your posts OP, and then come back and tell everyone how much EVE sucks.  So here's some advice before you even think of playing EVE.

First, build your first character correctly.  This guide will help.

wiki.goonfleet.com/index.php

Second, read at least one new player guide (you can Google dozens) and this would be a great place to start:

www.battleclinic.com/forum/index.php/topic,3510.0.html

Third, do the tutorial.  Yep, its long (2-3 hours), boring at times and even confusing, but do it anyways. You'll finish it with some stuff you should sell for starting cash, and an updgrade to your ship so you can continue onward with your career.

Finally, a little clarity on the security  levels in EVE.  Its basically designed into 3 areas.

0.5 - 1.0 - Called high sec space, and is more or less safe (no where is completely safe) but if you fly smart you'll never lose a ship in this area. (unless you fall for one of the many griefing tactics such as can flipping, but these too can be easily avoided)

0.1 - 0.4 - Called low sec space, is probably the most dangerous space in EVE, especially at the points where it transitions from high sec to low (.5 --> .4) and low sec to 0.0 (0.1 -->0.0)

0.0 - Dangerous at times, but more often empty of many people and is usually controlled by some alliance that if you're part of, you'll help to defend and protect each other in.

I'm not going to lie to you OP, EVE is a tough game to get started in, and to really master it you are going to have to be willing to put in the effort it takes to study the game and learn its mechanics.  After almost 18 months in the game I'm still learning, the process will never really stop. (which is what appeals to me about the game).

One final note, its important to train your learning skills, but if its your first character, I recommend you intersperse that with other skills so you can progress your character at the same time.

Oh yes, as someone mentioned, EVE university is a great place for new players (even trials) and if you decide to make the committment and stick around you'll find others more than willing to have you join them in the EVE forums recruiting channel.  Just don't expect the major alliances to pick you up, as they are afraid of spys and it will take a bit of time to join them.

Banning me, only makes me stronger.

Thank you all for your help. I've started a character based on goonfleets Amar PvP build. It seems like the best  choice for exploring and still being able to defending myself.

I shall take your advice to heart and be vigilant and maintain a healthy suspicion of everyone.  As for the in game name,  after a considerable and debated decision, I have chosen to call myself "Captain Noobface".

Be on the look out for me, the interstellar galaxy will resound with my accomplishments and deeds. For all of you who helped, I won't forget you when I make it big. Mom dad, thanks for everything, I'll make you proud Yata!!
