What you don''t know, could hurt you.

I bet the day that KOTOR MMO comes out, we will see the end of Star Wars Galaxies. I admit it is one of the best MMOs I've ever played but there's some serious issues with the game. I mean there's a lot of big problems with this game. But then again when KOTOR MMO comes out, we will see that SoE really screwed up and I think BioWare, one of the best single player RPG makers with revolutionary Mass Effect combat will really turn the MMO genre around.

And not only that, far more important than that. The multiplayer driven end game is what an MMO really needs. We've seen games like Age of Conan, great combat, Warhammer great RvR and PvP. Final Fantasy XI has great end game and storyline, but we need a revolution. And that's what BioWare has to offer.

Your current players are your foundation for future success.

I do think this is what Bioware is aiming for.  They seem to want to do something totally revolutionary in the genre.  They'll need the whole package to be successful though:  good development; good and ethically sound business model; good QA; good visioning and management; good customer support; and good, honest, accurate communication and marketting.  Tbh, I really hope they pull it off.  I think the story elements are going to be second to none, and the idea of choice points that impact gameplay and character development is very cool.

It is difficult to imagine SWG still maintaining a pulse after the release of Bioware's highly anticipated Star Wars MMO.  SWG was once a great game, but it is nothing special anymore.  I think SWG will be able to die off respectfully, knowing that they once had one of the best MMOs ever.  Bioware is a great company for gaming, but I question their MMORPG creditionals.  Only time will tell, but I'm hoping they take all the good characteristics from SWG because there is a lot of good material that they need to consider as well as a lot of mistakes and pitfalls that they need to avoid.

Either way, as a huge SW fan, I will be atleast doing my typical 3 month test upon release:)

SWG is 5 years now, that's really old.

Off course Wow still seems to keep a huge playerbase after 4 years but even it will fall to age sooner or later.

As long as SOE can keep it's licence they will probably keep the game running, since they share all resources fpr billing and the server park for all their games even 10K players is still $150 000 a month in and no really big expenses so they will keep it running as long as lucas arts allows them. The question is if LA will let them.

But even the most optimist must see that SWG will lose a lot of players. Too bad, it was not a bad game 5 years ago but time goes.
