Ok my apologies for the joke, but maybe we really need a to catch some attention on the topic of graphics.

I mean, SERIOUSLY, this is Star Wars... and the screenshots more look like LEGO Star Wars. I tried to be calm and patient, but the recent interview in IGN I think about the artist style really unsettled me. No, unsettling is something different. Being a huge Star Wars fan I am officially in PANICK MODE. Sorry. But thats how I feel about my most precious Nerd-fandom. Like with prolly every Nerd-fandom it concerns me a lot, and alpha or not, they said this IS the direction they want. I dont care so much about the landscape, but its those hidious CHARACTERS. Sheesh. These square-jawed cartoon network guys are going to be the new Jedi Masters, Sith Lords and Bounty Hunters?

Really, I understand its Alpha, but we must be lound now in order to get through the wax in most Developers ears. You all know how Devs are, they only listen if the drums are really, really loud, so lets make sure they are so they shake the buildings at LucasArts and Bioware so they NOT going to make Star Wars Squarepants LEGO.

As a sidenote from an ex-SWGer: it looks apparent now the mayor responsibility of NGE seems to go to LucasArts. This SO breathes NEW. Action combat, ICONIC design, away from sandbox. I mean, really, I value good storytelling, but... havent we seen disaster with too confined, too simplified gameplay in a Star Wars MMO ALREADY? Let me say this for once and clear: copying from WOW is NO receipe for success, especially when an Art design for 2010+ looks like 1998 design. Comic where comic belongs, like into Champions Online.

But STAR WARS surely deseves a more adult, mature look and look comic uber extreme iconic or whatever you'd call it. Read my lips: if you go this way, it WILL flop.

lol nice one.  Guess what though.  I hear that their approach with these current models was intended.  Let's hope they listen and not pull an SOE on us.

Take a look at the crap Lucasarts is spewing out these days, as in the Clone Wars movie and TV-series. Sadly, I don't think they get the picture.

I hope they do, the less SWG vets we have playing this the better, they are all looney toons.

The design and engine they use is for a purpose. It allows for faster game design, and will allow them to do the same as blizzard in regards to "plays on everyones machine".

People, specifically people who obsess over a "IP", it doesn't matter if it is Star Wars, Conan, Lord of the Rings whatever. The game usually never lives up to what they think the "vision" should be.

My advice to you guys is this.

Odds are you will never get to use a lightsaber in your lifetime. You do not know how to use the force nor can you construct a laser blaster pistol. Yeah you could run around in Jedi robes or Mandalorian Battle gear or whatever, but you would prolly be laughed at.

This is ment to be a game, just a game.... for you know entertainment. To tell a story, one that you can read and use your imagination on. Just something to pass your time until SW: WhateverMovie comes out next. Just something to pass your time between Star Trek conventions, or whatever the case may be.

Take it for what it is, and quit being a super nerd. Or "Nerd Fandom" or whatever you called it.

The game will be fine, and will prolly be along the lines in looks wise of the new clone wars animations they just came out with. Which honestly isn't that bad. It's just a style of art. Bioware and Lucasart can't please everyone. So just take it or leave it.

It's Star Wars thats a plus

It's an MMO thats a plus

It has 3 good names behind it another plus

I wont be ruined by SOE that's a plus

They have plenty of time to change things and seem to have a solid plan to follow. Plus

They have a lot of pluses going for them. Just let them work

I hear ya, brother.  But people are saying be patient it's pre alpha, so I'm gonna relax for the time being.  From what I have read, they want to make a game that will play on the largest number of computers.  They do not appear to be aiming toward that top end hardcore niche.

I don't really care for the graphics at this stage either.  But maybe they will do something to spruce them up.  Having really good customization options would also be nice.

I dont really mind the cartoony graphics but atleast keep the character model proportions realistic.

Original KotOR had good enough character models (atleast for me) so use them please.

Oh, so Star Wars is adult-oriented? Since when? You saw it as a kid but are now grown up so you demand that it turns into grown up stuff, too?

Let's not delude ourselves. Star Wars was children-oriented back in the 70s, too. Actually, you'd hear no end of how Lucas single-handedly turned a profoundly intelligent genre like science fiction (which in those days was heavily into social analysis with dystopias and false utopias) into a shiny kindergarten. It was practically both the Pirates of the Caribbean and the Pokemon of its age. Even the cast and crew was making fun of the movie *right there on the set filming it* , calling Chewie "the dog" and such...

I'm a fan, but I have to say it's just ridiculous to think Star Wars is rugged adult stuff... It was just a good reworking of well-known mythological archetypes into space setting - with a lot of "pew-pew" and an annoyingly whiny protoganist (Why people knock Anakin when Luke was so much more whiny is beyond me. Looking back and seeing Luke as a cool hero must be due to the same memory lapse that's causing people to think Star Wars was ever mainly adult stuff).

Sorry mate but even something as trivial as a MMO is SUPPOSED to have something like artistic style, and not look like Micky Mouse Club from 1980 or what. Yeah its just a hobby, but why cant a hobby at least look cool? And IF we go cartoony, why not have a really COOL artistic style like the SW Legacy comics and NOT the Clone Wars blockhead movie? Tis something about refined taste, hobby or no. I am really out of the age of Playmobil, ja ne?
