I, like many, bought WAR because I like PvP. But the more and more I play, I realize that RvR and PvP are two very different things. For what it is, an RvR game, War is fantastic. But for typical PvPers (Not the WoW ones), it falls epically short. PvP used to be about risk vs reward, see EVE and UO. In War's eyes, it means zerging the hell out of control points infested with PvE mobs. In fact, most RvR fights are engaged without any real player opposition. Taking control points and keeps is 95% a PvE affair. You farm through champion mobs, take a hero keep lord. Some times you get real players defending, but they don't make a big different. You die, run back, die run back. It's just a mix of PvE and rewardless/riskless player zerg. Kind of like a typical FPS game. You kill a lot and die alot, and don't really get any depth or accomplishment. Maybe it's just me, but PvP is something like in EVE. Not this watered down stuff you see in WAR / WoW / most other fantasy level based MMO. |

To the OP, yeah I see what you mean; most people just try to zerg everything because there is nothing deterring them from doing so. It doesn't matter if they get killed a million times running into the thick of it and getting burned down 2 secs later. If there were a more harsh penalty then people would work together more...maybe. Either way, the rationale for the way RvR is in this game is to encourage battles as much as possible. Guess they felt a steep penalty would deter people, but no penalty encourages stupidity. Lose lose situation, can't please everyone. { Mod Edit } |

The problem is that what you are trying to argue against and for are not mutually exclusive. all rvr means is that you have two sides (or more?) sides. that has nothing to do with risk vs reward or how it is implemented. so the more correct statement would be that you don't like how Mythic has dealt with RvR. |

Your correct in that PvP and RvR have noticable differences, and one who likes one, may not like the other. However RvR is not about zerging PvE mobs, it is not only focusing on control points, and RvR is most importantly, about groups of players battling it out as a team WAR is a bad example of RvR if you were to ask me, and other Daoc players. Your right that WAR keep sieges often become basically a PvE event with no one defending, why this is the case is beyond me, though I blame scenarios for soaking up potential players from joining in these battles. Its the players fault, not the game imo. Daoc did RvR right, WAR is like you said, a watered down version of that, it needs work if not a revamp imo. But, to describe any or all RvR games the way you did, is false, ask any daoc player. |

I have maxed out chars on napa valley UO, and have PVP'd for years with them. I think I know what you're referring to as far as a style of PVP but from what I gather from your post, you're not even making the effort to PVP. Rather, you are using the predesigned game mechanics to "herd" you to the pvp areas. I have no problem finding pvp opponents in WAR. If I want to PVP, I go to a RVR flaggable area and hunt my prey. Its easy to stay away from mobiles ( monsters ) if you choose to. It's really about choice. In UO, same thing, I could participate in faction wars or I could run around our guild house fighting whatever PK's and opposing guilds that think they're wanting a fight. In the end, WAR is just not old enough in the sense that players have beaten the dirt with their foot and hoof prints. It took years in UO to be in the "know" where PVP is happening and it always required being in a guild thats PVP oriented. WAR is not a single player game, but if you want to go 1 on 1 vs. another player, nobody is stopping you. Seriously guys, WAR has given you all the tools to make up your own style of gameplay, and most of you complainers are thinking inside of the box and complaining because you're not being spoon fed some sort of desired experience. Just like in real life, if you want something to happen, you must MAKE it happen. Or you could sit around like an insane person, doing the same repetative stuff over and over, while expecting a different result. WAR is what you make of it, are you able to think outside of the box? |
