I think 2009 looks like a great year for MMORPGs, especially after the very dull last few years that we have seen.

2009 is supposed to bring us, or claims to bring us:

Earthrise

Jumpgate Evolution

Fallen Earth

Mortal Online(I think)

Darkfall (Lets be honest, if it's really coming out soon it will probably not be until 09)

I thought  I saw a few rumors saying SW:TOR was supposed to come out in 09 but that's still doubtful.

Overall I think there is a nice line up of new games coming out or scheduled to come out next year. What you guys think?

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Jumpgate Evolution, Earthrise, Fallen Earth, anything sandbox.

i'd say its the Indie year for sure.  whether that turns out to be one of the best years (i do hope so...give the big companies a nice slap in the face) or a horror year who knows?

By experience I can tell you that Mortal Online, SWTOR and Earthrise will take 2 more years to come out......at least

Fallen Earth and Darkfall might just make it, you also forgot Aion, which could be interesting and it is definetly coming out in 2009.

Of those 3 the one with biggest chances is Aion, although Darkfall and Fallen Earth are more interesting on paper.

Looks like any other year for mmorpgs to me :\ I mean all them games will have tiny subscriber bases and be aload of crap, people keep putting their faith into these low budget games and never learn that they just don't deliver... Darkfall will fucking suck and I'm fedup of the people who put their faith in it, just let me say I told you so when it's released and sucks and fails.

The golden years was 2003 and 2004 but just a shame the genre has done nothign since but ruin them games/

May contain nuts.

They said that about 2008 and look what happened. Two of the most anticipated MMORPGs since WoW came and went. WAR had more hype and promise than all of 2009's offerings put together, and even the most rabid fanboys would have to admit it was somewhat underwhelming.

Darkfall is what I'm holding out for, but the odds are stacked against it.

Playing: WoW, VG:SoH

Waiting for: Darkfall
