Anyone notice this new string of FPS' being published by f2p companies?  Gunz, Combat Arms, Black Ops, Crossfire, and Warrock.  The concept after playing them seems gimmicky and just a source of revenue when you examine what these games offer.  Black Ops and Crossfire definetly the worst.  It seems they are trying to steal the Gunz crowd after Gunz turned into nothing more then hackers paradise as you had people sword flying around quick swapping to sniper rifles and headshotting.  Even worse they are rehashes of old FPSes like CS 1.0 only done... worse.

You kill the Joe, you make some moe

Dead space had a little progression in it being a shooter, i personally loved it, I think more shooters should have character progression in them so you can give your character in game strengths and weaknesses, rather than in a game like Halo where you just pick up guns and shoot.

Adds more depth to the game imo, I haven't tried any of the games you've listed except Gunz

Planetside was a good mmo shooter that had a form of progression in it

All online FPS games get hacked eventually and then ruined. Look up hack vids of any given FPS on youtube to see what I'm talking about.

What's interesting is that the hackers are starting to get a little bit more discrete about what they're doing so that the communities they victimize don't catch on and migrate out of the game. Take Combat Arms for example. You won't see a lot of people shooting or walking through walls, but seeing through walls and aimbotting is rampant. It's not something so overt that you're going to notice even after a playing a person for a couple of games. Of course, this kind of cheating doesn't make you invincible either.

Incidentally, you can find hacks for mainstream games like Counter-Strike: Source and Battlefield 2. This is the reason that I'm slowly abandoning online gaming and only playing local mulitplayer on consoles or LAN parties where you can find out very quickly if a person is cheating and deal with it.

There are alot of FPSes with in-game progression systems.  The ones I am talking about specifically are ones with payment over time, such as planetside or a f2p game.  I think its harder to hack in certain FPS such as Counter Strike.  Nearly all CS games have an admin online and if a person is suspected its a simple matter of sitting in spec looking how they aim, then banning them.  Some don't have any admins monitoring at all.
